28 Days to Healthier-Looking Skin

As a young woman, I was often complimented on the youth-looking appearance of my skin. Because I’m Latina, a combination of genetics, melanin, and skin that tends to err on the side of being slightly oily, I don’t have many wrinkles. However, I do have a few skin challenges that I am constantly working to correct without much success. Like many skin conditions, genetics plays an important role in shaping our predispositions, and I’m finding that as I get older, my dark under-eye circles are becoming more problematic (or perhaps I’m just more attune to them).

Burt's Bees Renewal Line

Like many women, I’ve tried more skin care products than I can keep track of, both organic and conventional.  What I like about Burt’s Bees new Renewal line is that it is easy to use, affordable, and most importantly, all-natural. Burt’s Bees’ philosophy is simple yet compelling: To offer products with ingredients that are simple, natural and responsible.  Skin care products specifically targeting the aging process are not conventionally made from naturally-derived ingredients, which makes Burt’s Bees’ Renewal Line distinct.

Across the Renewal Line, each product contains White Hibiscus, which helps to smooth winkles, and Apple, found to help hydrate the skin. The entire line aims to reduce the look of lines and wrinkles, improve firmness and make skin appear smoother and more hydrated. To put the line to the test against my dark circles and the fine lines around my eyes, I decided to take Burt’s Bees’ 28-day Face Cleanse. The premise behind the challenge is that the the skin renews itself every 28 days.  In sync with your skin’s natural renewal, Burt’s Bees offers a Refining Cleanser, a Firming Day Lotion, a Firming Night Cream, a Smoothing Eye Cream, and an Intensive Firming Serum. Since my goal was to see real results in 28 days, I picked up the cleanser, eye cream and firming serum at my local Walmart for $50.

Step 1: Cleanse & Exfoliate

I’ve had a number of skin care professionals attest to the importance of removing makeup and dirt every single day as an initial step towards healthier-looking skin. I like that Burt’s Bees’ Refining Cleanser works as both a cleanser and an exfoliator to improve skin texture. After using the cleanser for several weeks now, I can attest to it’s gentleness as it won’t dry or irritate the skin. The fact that I can complete 2 skin-care regimen steps with one product makes this my new favorite cleanser.

Step 2: Moisturize & Protect

We know that regular, prolonged sun exposure accelerates the aging process, so wearing sunscreen every single day, regardless of direct or indirect exposure will help protect your skin against damage and skin cancer.  Skin also requires hydration so a daily moisturizer that won’t clog pores is also essential for preserving skin firmness. Once again, Burt’s Bees combines two skin-care regimen steps in one with their Firming Day Lotion. This particular moisturizer is lightweight, includes a natural, broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen, and helps to improve firmness while reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

For many women, the above two steps will suffice. However, as we age, our skin may benefit from adding a Nighttime Treatment or corrective products like the Intensive Firming Cream (designed to improve firmness and reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles, and the Smoothing Eye Cream (designed to reduce the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes, dark circles, and under-eye puffiness).

After using the 3 products I purchased for the last few weeks, the most significant improvement I’ve noticed is the way my skin feels. I’ve always struggled with dryness outside of my T-zone (particularly my forehead) and I’ve found my skin feels soft and hydrated. The faint lines I have around my eyes have diminished some but I’ve yet to see any significant improvements in the appearance of my dark circles. According to Burt’s Bees, improvements in deep wrinkles, dark circles, and under-eye puffiness can take up to 8 weeks, so I’m still hopeful that I’ll realize the results I’m looking for. Because I tend to have sensitive skin, products made from natural ingredients are important to me and I appreciate that I haven’t experienced any irritation or allergy to the new Renewal Line.

No Makeup Monday

No makeup!

Overall, I’ve been quite pleased with my new skin care regimen, inspired by Burt’s Bees’ Renewal Line. The time I invest each night is minimal compared to the long-term results I’m realizing and my skin seems to be reacting positively.

Could your skin use some Renewal? I encourage you to sign up for Burt’s Bees’ 28-Day Face Cleanse. Not only will your skin thank you, you could win a trip to LA for a day of renewal with celebrity nutritionist Kimberly Snyder, a years’ worth of Renewal Face Care Products and more.
