I remember a time when my daughter would have nothing to do with the animated characters she met in person. She would hold me tight and bury her head in my shoulder. I guess that is why the moment she walked up to Strawberry Shortcake and her friends was so special. What you can’t see is her initial conversation with Strawberry…oh how I wish I had a tape recorder.
Yesterday afternoon, my daughter, my mother, and I spent the afternoon at Club Nokia for the North American debut of Strawberry Shortcake: Follow Your Berry Own Beat. My daughter is a huge fan of the berry sweet girl who always brings positive messages of friendship and confidence to little girls and was a bit star-struck as she watched Strawberry and her friends perform live onstage.
The brand-new musical production, which continues its North American tour this Spring, follows the iconic little girl and her friends as they prepare for the Glitzy Glaze Talent Show. In a brand new story featuring Strawberry Shortcake and her best friends Orange Blossom, Lemon Meringue, Blueberry Muffin, Raspberry Torte, Plum Pudding, and Cherry Jam, the girls work through their own internal struggles of finding their own unique talent for the show. When they begin to forget about the friendship that unites them, it will be up to each little girl to unite together to show the town that little girls can do berry big things.
The show runs about an hour and a half and is preceded by a live performance from the Doodlebops, a rockin’ band popular amongst preschoolers. Although the show is ideal for little girls, I saw quite a few little boys in the audience engaged and even dancing. With catchy tunes, a colorful stage, and an endearing cast, Strawberry Shortcake: Follow Your Berry Own Beat will delight and warm the hearts of families this season.
