When I’m not chasing after two little people who call me mommy, I’m at our local hospital changing lives. As a NICU nurse, I have the opportunity to be involved in helping infants who were born prematurely or with a medical condition. Due to significant advances in medicine, physicians and members of the health care team help effect a positive outcome with these infants.
Pampers has been involved with effecting change in Neonatal Intensive Care Units across the country by donating care packages to families with ill or premature infants. Their Little Miracle Missions program was launched, in part, to celebrate their 50th birthday. Their partnership with Graham’s Foundation will result in the donation of more than 30,000 care packages to 800 NICUs across the country.
The goal of the Little Miracle Missions program is “to celebrate, support, and protect babies through acts of kindness to little miracles (babies) and their families, while encouraging parents to ‘pay it forward’ and support others.” Part of this campaign involves a Facebook promotion where fans can pay it forward by offering congratulations and support to an expectant mother with a gift or surprise. Your pledge will result in Pampers giving baby showers to expectant mothers across the country.
Our church has a program that offers meals to families who have just delivered a baby. I remember the sleepless nights and chaos of having a newborn (particularly the second time around when I also had a toddler). For 2-4 weeks each family at our church offers to provide a meal to new parents to give them a little time away from the kitchen so they can bond and get acclimated to parenthood. I’m going to use the $50 gift card I’ll be receiving to purchase meals for those families in our church.

Our local news stations mentioned a shortage of things like diapers and baby items at abuse shelters so I would use it to donate those items to those shelters.

In a few months, I’ll be taking a trip to Brazil for my work. (I know, lucky me!) Though Brazil is a rapidly growing economy, it still has a lot of extreme poverty. I’d love to be able to pay it forward by supporting one of the charities that works with Brazil’s underclass. Electronics that are inexpensive in the U.S. are very costly in Brazil, including things like electronic thermometers, bottle sanitizers, etc. I’d love to be able to buy some here for donation in Brazil.

I would make up donation baskets for people in my state who were affected by the recent bad weather Between coupons and sales I regularly score free/nearly free health and beauty items (I haven’t paid for shampoo or deodorant in YEARS), diapers and wipes. I would put this GC towards purchasing these items (coupons, and the OOP).
I normally donate these to the local food bank but I could drop off these items @ NC State instead. My son goes to school there and even he has been inspired to volunteer with the cleanup effort.
