As different as my husband and I seem to be sometimes, we actually have a lot in common. I remember the first time we met (another place, another time) and how we shared a passion for Broadway musicals. How much better can you get than a man who enjoys the theater?
Living in Europe for 8 months afforded my husband and I plenty of opportunities to see plays, musicals and even the opera. So you can imagine how I excited I was to learn that the illustrious voice behind Maureen Johnson in the Broadway and film versions of Rent and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, in the musical Wicked is Idina Menzel.
The Tony award winning actress-singer-songwriter has just released her new album entitled I Stand. She has a beautiful voice and her lyrics are rich and honest. The album has a good mix of uptempo, blare it on your radio beats and moving ballads about life and love.
If you’d like to see where Idina Menzel is going to be on tour next, check out her MySpace page here.

Idina’s album quickly became the thing I would listen to on repeat on my iTunes all day. Although it was hard to choose, my favorite song out of all of them would have to be “My Own Worst Enemy”. Having the privilege to see Idina perform live this summer in Richmond, this song was definitely one of my favorites that she performed. She put so much emotion into it, and just gave her all on stage. Idina puts her heart and soul into all of her song lyrics, and it clearly shows when you see her perform live. The lyrics of the chorus are so powerful, and she ties so many people that are important to her into it- her supporting parents and her loving husband. To me, this song just really describes who Idina is, and shows both her wonderful support system and her occasional weaknesses.

This will be easy – Brave is much better than listening to the sound of ice tea being stirred (a reference to Maureen in Rent and not an insult to Idina).
