{Consideration provided by Knott’s Berry Farm}
The highlight of last night’s media preview at Knott’s Berry Farm was boysenberry cream cheese dripping down my hands as we chased the light for the perfect fun bun shot.
I absolutely love this time of year. It’s still cool enough to enjoy a day at the beach or the park without being overwhelmed by our Southern California heat. Everything is fresh and green from our winter rains and the increased daylight means we can spend more time enjoying all of our city’s diverse outdoor activities. The first day of Spring means that Knott’s Berry Farm’s Boysenberry Festival is right around the corner. This is admittedly one of the most delicious activities in Orange County and features the most diverse selection of boysenberry-inspired foods.
Knott’s Berry Farm Boysenberry Festival Honors Its Roots
Knott’s Berry Farm was once a berry farm established by Walter Knott and his family. Knott was the first person to commercially cultivate the boysenberry in Southern California after transplanting the berry’s vines from the former Boysen farm. If you’re curious about this unique berry, it is a cross between a loganberry, a red raspberry and a blackberry. As the berry became popular, Mrs. Knott began making preserves, which made Knott’s Berry Farm famous. It has been said that every boysenberry in the world can be traced back to the farm.
With such a rich and important history, the boysenberry will be celebrated for 23 days with inspired dishes and live entertainment during the Boysenberry Festival. Beginning April 1st, locals and visitors can enjoy over 70 sweet and savory boysenberry-inspired dishes, drinks and more.
Additionally, the park will feature limited time entertainment including Snoopy’s Boysenberry Jamboree, the infamous Pie Eating Contest, and a special film detailing the history of the Boysenberry and Knott’s Berry Farm (located at Town Hall in Ghost Town).
