The scene: Southern California’s most prominent food writers converge at Wilderness Dance Hall, racing against the light to capture the best shots of Knott’s Berry Farm’s most popular Boysenberry Foods, including a fresh baked cinnamon roll fried in funnel cake batter and topped with house-made boysenberry cream cheese, otherwise known as The Fun Bun. The first day of Spring is just a few days away, and more importantly, marks the return of the increasingly popular Boysenberry Festival. Featuring more than 70 foods inspired by the berry that put the berry farm-turned theme park on the map, you’ll experience Walter Knott’s signature boysenberry in inventive new ways.
A cross between a red raspberry, a blackberry, and a loganberry, all boysenberries can be traced back to Walter Knott and his berry farm, and have a distinct and balanced blend of sweet and tart flavors. While ideal for preserves and pies, the sweet and tart flavor profiles mean that boysenberries can be used in both desserts and more savory dishes.
