My sibling has been hard this year, it would be neat if she can have an awesome gift like this.

  • by Eileen December 12, 2010 at 1:35 am

Id say my son and his family deserve this chance…they just cant catch a break. Health and financial reasons did not allow him to finish his last credits of school and he cant find a job in his field, is working nearly minimum wage with 2 kids. And a mountain of school debt. I wish we could help him and our two other older kids who want so badly to get an education. We could use it too, as I would be able to see a doctor I need to see for health issues and would also help with my husbands sudden %25 loss of hours at his job…our only income. We know there are more deserving,…homeless families, hungry children, people who cant afford to pay their heat or put gas in their cars to get them to work…it’s tough out there and heartbreaking. So we could find plenty of people who deserve this!

    thank you!

I think my mom deserves the Season of Surprises because she is the strongest person I know. No, she doesn’t have cancer or some life threating desease. I am the one who has a life threating desease. Im only 21 and I was dianosed what I was 4. I went on dialysis when I was 16 and my mom has been with me every step of the way. She tells me that im the strongest person she knows but Im not, she is. To put up with me all these years she has to be. So thats why I think my mom deserves this.

My 23 year old daughter who has been diabetic for 21 years is having a difficult time this Christmas season. She called to ask for money to buy toilet paper last night. Even winning $25.00 would be an immense present for her. I help her all I can but even I am on disability (she is too) and can’t help her enough. Please enter me into the American Expresss’ Season of Surprises, so I can surprise her for Christmas and give her hope.

  • by Maureen December 12, 2010 at 8:28 am

My parents are whom I would love to have win the Celebrate the Season.
They have had a few health issues this summer but they have also been there for me when I had three surgeries this past summer. They also will help a sister babysit her three young sons. They have 7 kids and I think we all feel like we get equal treatment from them. They are concerned about all of us. I have a sister who had stage 4 cancer and during her treatment my parents were with her every day through the struggle and treatment and recovery.

My daughter deserves this Season of surprises win because she’s been working really hard in school (5 AP classes this year!) and is keeping her grades up so she can get into a good college! She’s also spending time applying for scholarships and grants to help pay for college. If she won this, it would be a huge help financially and she could focus on school and grades, and let’s not forget the SAT/ACT testing…

I can’t imagine anyone more deserving than my retired parents who spent their lives in ministry and raised 5 kids and lived paycheck to paycheck almost every day of their lives–even now. Health issues, including cancer, have taken a toll, but you’d never know it by their wonderful gratitude for another day spent with each other.

  • by Kat Bryan December 13, 2010 at 11:26 pm

I would give the gift to my daughter’s family. They had a major house fire in April when they attended a children’s concert at school. Everything was lost, including their beloved cat, Santana. Here we are months later and they have not been reimbursed for any of the possessions they lost by insurance. They’ve had to hire an adjuster to help them.

The two children would have a wonderful Christmas and my daughter would be able to replace some of the things they lost with the American Express gift card.

    Thanks for the contest,

    Mandatory
Our family deserve the money because we’re in a huge financial crisis right now. $100,000 would definitely help pay off some of the debt and loans.

My good friend Emily would definitely deserve a “season of surprises” this year. Despite the fact that she was laid off from her office job of nearly ten years and has had to move her family to a smaller apartment and sell her can and valuables to make ends meet this year, she remains one of the most selfless and compassionate people I know. And her sense of humor and love for life have both remained strong. I’d love to see her get some great news or unexpected surprises very soon!

My ex’s mom deserves a Season of Surprises because she’s always doing so much for her family, friends, church and community. She’s the most selfless person I know. The funny thing is, if she won the $100,000 she would keep very little of it for herself, and would instead donate the bulk of it to her church and the other causes and charities she supports.

I’ve got a number of rare medical disorders, and family members are faced with foreclosure and auction of homes. Unfortunately, medical issues can bankrupt the patient and his or her family. I need it, my mom who is suffering from Parkinson’s needs it, and my sister Kathy and her family are faced with auction of their home because of spreading their resources thinly to care for eldely parents. What a helpful thing it would be to win. We’d share.

I want to nominate My Grandparents

married 30 years ago, and they each have brought 3 children into their family. Through their marriage, they adopted 3 more children, and served as foster parents to an additional 35. While they were serving as foster parents, an investigator spoke to them about a family consisting of a single working mother and 3 children who had no food in their home. My grandparents were always giving friends and neighbors vegetables out of his garden, and the investigator had hoped that they could give the family some of this food. The Browns went out immediately and bought groceries for this family. Similar requests began being referred to them, and they realized that there was a tremendous unmet need in their rural community. Hence The Children’s Table began in 1996. They took their personal belief that no child should go to bed hungry, and created this non-profit organization to try and make their belief a reality in their community.

I What started as helping a family at a time has grown into a grassroots organization that has distributed over 23 million pounds of food in 53 counties in Florida. they have such conviction and has never waivered from their mission to feed families.
One Christmas, they decided that full holiday baskets with ham or turkey would be distributed to local families. they do this every year The day before the distribution, a frozen ham fell on Bill’s foot. He kept working to load and package food late into the night, worked the entire distribution, and only then went to the doctor where he discovered that he had actually broken his foot. That is dedication!

my grandma has been a registered nurse for the last 28 years, specializing in Pediatrics for the last 15 years. She has traveled to the Honduras to assist with a medical clinic and has been a dedicated force with the creation and support of the Children’s Table. I have seen her work a long shift at the hospital, drive 35 miles home, pick Bill up to go buy groceries and deliver them to a family in need. Much of her own earnings go into the budget of the Children’s Table to make sure their organization can continue to support local families.

my grandpa is now 80 years old He is the founder and the force behind the Children’s Table. He continues to be active in the gleaning of food for distribution to needy families. In his years in the Children’s Table, he has slept in a cardboard box to raise awareness on homelessness, he has organized highway hold-ups to support the holiday project, he has stood in front of stores to ask for donations, he organized food drive challenges at local elementary schools to teach children the importance of helping others, and he walked from Chiefland to Tallahassee to increase awareness on rural hunger issues. At 80 years young, he is the energetic face of the Children’s Table who does not accept complacency when dealing with hunger in the community.

Since their humble beginnings with trading plants for food, they have now helped start and support numerous food pantries around North Central Florida who themselves also regularly assist hundreds of families monthly. They have worked with students at the University of Florida who conducted several food and clothing drives to benefit the Children’s Table. From these donations, they were able to send a semi load of clothes and school supplies to children in Afghanistan, and sent a semi load of clothes and food to the victims of the Tsunami.

they do all this work because they feel passionately that it is each of our responsibility to make the difference in the lives of others. They make donations without the benefiting families having any idea of the level of sacrifice and work that happens behind the scenes to have this food available for distribution.

They live a very humble existence, but have a big dream. They have always wanted to build a warehouse with a walk in cooler and freezer to have a place to store food that they can have readily available for their community.
