I have so many memories of going to watch my brothers play little league every weekend. We made great friends that have lasted a lifetime! I always wanted to play, but back then, my mom thought girls should play other things, like the accordion. And that is why I will let my daughters play any sport they want!

My favorite memory was back sometime in the 70’s, at the old Cleveland Municipal Stadium. Back then you could bring a cooler in the stadium and my mom made fried chicken. It was a beautiful summer evening spent with my parents and sisters. The Indians won and Oscar Gamble stole home base during the game. There was so much excitement and was everything was perfect. The evening ended with a spectacular fireworks show.

i;m not sure this counts as a youth sports story but when I was young, oh probaby 3rd grade, my mom put me in tennis lessons. the teacher was really mean and boring. I didn’t enjoy the lessons. SO, I would always er uh “accidentally” hit my ball over the fence around the court (it was group style lessons) and then have to go retrieve it which took a long time, therefore I would have to miss class time.

I never got to play sports myself, but I always went to my nephew’s baseball and football youth games. Some things has changed over the years as I remember watching my friends playing when I was a kid. One thing I can say is sportsmanship is such a wonderful thing that is taught in youth sports. When I was little, I remember the winning team just bragging like crazy or the kids behaving in an upsetting way. Now, I see teams congrat eachother, getting and giving advice and the thrive to not just win, but mostly have fun. That is what sports should be about. Great to advance one’s skills, but can’t enjoy the game if not having fun.

However, my 4yo daughter has no idea what she is doing out there and just follows everyone around with a huge smile on her face. My three year daughter was put on second base, not really having a clue why she was put there. She did a great job at standing on the base making sure no one touched it. Well a four year boy ran towards her and stopped on the base. My daughter was not about to let that happen so with her tummy she pushed him off the base. It didn’t stop there the boy decided he would do the same. So they were both pushing eachother off the base using their tummies. My daughter won her tummy was bigger.I

I still don’t know how this happened, but I swear it did. When I was in 3rd grade gym class, we were playing kickball. I’d been hit in the head with the ball and was sidelined with a bloody nose (back then blood was only an inconvenience and not a health hazard, so no going to the nurse.) This kid kicked the ball, and it came towards me and landed on my head and sat there until another kid came and removed it from my noggin’. It sounds impossible, but it happened!

I would have to say that one of them was yesterday. My 10 yr. old daughter hit a foul ball that left our field and almost went into the other field. If the ball had been straight it would have went over the fence. You should have heard the other parents. They couldn’t believe it. She ended up hitting a double with 3 rbis. She also ended up getting the game ball. It was a great day. lol thank you!

I’ve coached softball for 10 years and one of the most rewarding experiences was last year’s team. The previous season, the team won only one game all season. Last year, we won as many as we lost. It required a lot of hard work on the part of the players as well as the 3 coaches, but it was so worth it.
Thanks for sponsoring !

In early elementary school I was a sickly child, missed school a lot and was always picked last to be on the school athletic teams. So, I decided that I would go into a restful state and visualize myself playing every game at school perfectly. After awhile, I was the first one the boys would pick to be on their teams and really did well in basketball, dodgeball, handball, tetherball, and volleyball. In fourth grade I was selected by my classmates to receive the “Best Sportsmanship Award,” which included outstanding citizenship as well as the ability to “play ball.” In junior high I received chevron citations for excellent ball playing and sportsmanship. All of these awards helped with my self-exteem.

I played first base. A lefty whacked the ball at me so fast that I was caught off guard, but I snagged the ball nonetheless, then it bounced out of my glove, and I caught it again, only to lose it ONE more time before I FINALLY held on to that sucker for dear life and for the out. They called me The Juggler from then on.

We have supported many of the youth sports leagues in our county. I have carpooled many kids from one end of town to another as a “free taxi” so the kids could play while their parents did something else – I believe in support and family time and will help to lend a hand. We are in the midst of our soccer and volleyball season and every sport overlaps somewhere – next will be fall baseball/softball, then basketball and swimming, to running, tennis and so much more – I enjoy watching the kids smile – when we have special needs kids on our teams or working with the special needs soccer association or the spec ial olympics it is nice to have a buddy by your side to help bring joy to others – priceless.

I remember my very first NFL football game was with my parents. I was a freshman in high school and we went to see the Bucs play the Patriots. Funny thing was my mascot for school at the time was the Patriot, so I was kinda torn on whether to keep rooting for my Bucs or switch because my mascot was the Patriot and a few friends were there. I didn’t really understand the game, but it was SO much fun! We tailgated, rivaled and had a blast. My parents have not been to game since the one and only game they were able to take me to in high school.
I would absolutely LOVE to win this and be able to take them to another Bucs game or a Tampabay Devil Rays game. Thank you for the chance to win!

My first personal experience with youth sports has been watching my nephew start to play tee-ball. He was so resistant at first, mostly because he didn’t quite grasp the game and didn’t show a lot of skill, but it’s been amazing seeing him learn patience and practicing with his dad and brother every day, and my favorite memory came so far when he got his first official hit earlier this summer — the look of shock and excitement on his face was priceless, and it was a terrific family moment. He did teach me to pitch, tho, and I often pitched for the kid games–even tho I was a girl!– and back then, girl pitchers werent so popular!
