Sports Authority Teams Up With Wii Fit Plus *Giveaway* Published on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 by

This giveaway is now closed.  Thanks so much for stopping by!  The winner is Chastidy.  Congrats!

If you’ve followed my blog, then you know that I used the Wii Fit to lose the baby weight before I got pregnant with our baby girl.  In fact, I now realize that those months when I felt like I wasn’t making any progress, were due to the fact that my body was creating a person!  Hehe!  I honestly think that the Wii Fit was and is an incredible innovation with regards to gaming and fitness.  Children (and adults) no longer have to sit on the couch, controls in hand, peeled to a screen.  I love the way the Wii Fit encourages movement, balance, and commitment to change.

Many of you may have heard that Nintendo has launched an updated version of the Wii Fit, called the Wii Fit Plus.  I can’t say I have personal experience with the updated version, however, the company has expanded on the original software to include new exercises and tools to personalize your fitness routine.  I’m hoping to upgrade mine soon (It’s around $20).

people-yoga-momIn addition, Jillian Michaels’ new Wii game “Fitness Ultimatum 2010” was just released for both the Wii and DS.  To celebrate, Sports Authority has teamed up with Nintendo to create a new way to experience fitness gaming.  On Thursday, November 19 (as in TOMORROW!), you can visit their Torrance, California store with a celebratory launch.  Here is a bit more information about how Sports Authority is collaborating withNintendo to create this experience:

To help customers get to know the Wii better, Sports Authority will create a “We know fit. We know fun.” experience at 102 of their stores. Stores will feature a dedicated area with a demo unit and knowledgeable trainers to help customers try the Wii and Wii Fit Plus before they buy.

Here are the details of the event:

Event Information:
Thursday, Nov. 19
Sports Authority store in Torrance (located at 3610 Torrance Blvd.), CA (just outside of Los Angeles, CA)
Event starts at 9:30 a.m. and runs until mid-day

Event Highlights:
· Jillian Michaels, from “The Biggest Loser,” will be in attendance.
· There will be the “world’s largest Wii Fit Plus” demonstration featuring 102 people. Jillian will be part of the demonstration, doing what she does best – showing folks how to get in shape!
· Lots of items to be given away, including copies of Jillian Michaels’ new Wii game “Fitness Ultimatum 2010 and Wii Fit Plus boards, as well as other prizes from Sports AuthorityNintendo and Nike.

For more information, check out the Sports Authority site.

Now I know many of you don’t live in Southern California…although I’d love to see you at the event…so…

So far I have started doing a little yoga with my son and running around with him, he is 3 so he wants to run and play and instead of sitting down or saying I am tired I run with him.

No kids at home but I would recommend that you mark your exercise on a calendar like you would have a doctor’s appointment and go take time for yourself. Went to spin class tonight and did 6 min. of ab work at home after.

We have Wii Fit but Jillian’s workout looks cool!

If I’m not mistaken Game informer gave this new version of wii fit an 8 out of 10 review. Must be pretty good considering I seem to remember the first one doing considerably worse than that. Anyway, my wife wants it and so does my sister. I’m always wary of tv and movie licensed games so I’m also somewhat suspicious about this Gillian Michaels fitness thing. I don’t know anything about it, but I’d be willing to be that the Wii fit is going to blow it’s doors off. Thanks for the update!

  • by Kristie November 19, 2009 at 5:33 am

Baby #2 is coming in less than 2 weeks so we will be getting our exercise with a baby strapped to me during household chores and while walking with my toddler in tow. Here’s to hoping that chasing after two boys will burn calories faster than anything!! :)

  • by Wanda November 19, 2009 at 2:38 pm

I fit in exercise “informally” by walking instead of driving to the store, walking the dog, carrying the groceries and laundry by myself, and dancing or playing on the floor with the little peeps and pets. In my son’s infancy, I pushed his stroller or carriage for walks, and sang and walked him to sleep many a night! Moms get plenty of “free” exercise anyway, don’t you think?

I exercise with my children. They dance around and I exercise. It works out great instead of me having to chase them around making sure everyone is ok or waiting until nap time. The music is upbeat so they love it.

I don’t have a little one anymore. When my son was little I worked out while he was in preschool or at after school program. Other than that I walked a ton taking him to Sea World, the zoo and the wild animal park every week.

When I work out, (not as often as I should) I have taken my oldest on a run with me. I also will sometimes workout in our basement while my youngest plays with his toys in the playroom part of the basement. This way he is close by. Sometimes he even comes over to get in on the fun. :)

The way that I get extra exercise it to walk as much as possible. I always park in the last parking place in parking lots to get in a few extra steps. My sons always complained and couldn’t understand why I would pass up a front row parking place, but now they just accept it as what we do.

The kids can always use quality time with dad, so while he takes them for a few hours on a weekend, mom can get a good workout in and the kids get dad all to themselves.

  • by Kelly B November 21, 2009 at 2:58 pm

When my son was little, I fit exercise in by taking the stroller and taking my son out on daily outings in the neighborhood. It was stimulating for him and a good work out for me. I also made a point of squeezing exercise in by doing floor exercises while he napped. Now that my son is older, I get my exercise in early, by waking up a little over a half hour early and working out before he wakes up. I am his snooze alarm. I tell him he has to get up soon, go work out, get in the shower, and wake him when I get out.

    Thank you for the chance!

I desperately wanted to get in shape after having kids but felt helpless. Then I found out that the YMCA has free child watch. We decided to get a membership a few years ago and I go about 2 times per week and sometimes up to 4 times per week. Before the kids were in school, they went into the child watch area and I did my workout then showered at the gym before getting the kids again. It was a turning point for me, both physically and emotionally!

  • by Shimona November 23, 2009 at 1:05 pm

Unfortunately I don’t usually find time to fit in any exercise, so I’m interested in reading all the hints you get! I tried recording one of those old Denise Austin exercise shows that are on early in the morning because I thought my 2 girls would have fun doing it with me, plus it’s free and I wouldn’t have to find time by myself to be able to work out. My 5-year-old was really into it but my 2-year-old was so frustrated that she couldn’t follow the steps that I had to turn it off. Maybe when she gets older I’ll try it again!

I recently lost the first 50 lbs. of the *ahem* certain number that I need to lose. I was able to do it by making myself a priority. For so many years, I just didn’t. I didn’t make the time to do it, and then I made excuses not to. Now, I just exercise every day. Either I get up early in the morning before the rest of the crew or I use naptime (thank God for the 2 hours my 2 year-old takes in the afternoon). Whatever it is, I just make myself do it…every day because I matter. :-)

  • by Angela Guy November 23, 2009 at 2:25 pm

I make myself do something every single day. I love to use the elliptical that my husband bought for himself (but doesn’t use), or I use a Biggest Loser DVD whenever I can fit it in. Either first thing in the morning, or I use my 2 year-old’s naptime to work out. I just make myself do it…every day.

It sounds bizarre but use your baby as your weights: laying down, do a chest press, standing, do a chest press, making faces silly faces while you do a big circle in front of you holding him/her! There’s so much and..as s/he gets bigger, and you can still “workout,” you know you’re getting stronger!!

Hello, I have been searching for a Wii Fit plus everywhere, but they seem to be disappearing right off the shelves in every store! If your like me, my family loves to be outside, but our weather doesn’t exactly correspond with our desires! So the Wii Fit plus is an excellent way for an inside easy workout! When my teenagers were mere toddlers, finding time to complete a successful workout wasn’t exactly what you would call a walk in the park. But one way that seemed to work for me was gathering a group of my neighborhood moms and taking turns watching the kids while the others took a walk around the neighborhood. Good idea huh?

  • by Joy Dunn November 23, 2009 at 7:56 pm

  • by rachel November 23, 2009 at 9:28 pm

I make exercising part of my every day schedule. I eat breakfast and then workout. I either take my daughter for a walk in the jogging stroller or head to my local gym that has a nursery. My best advice—vary your workouts! Try yoga, different cardio machines, fitness classes, videos, etc. Whatever you do—just keep moving!

  • by Jenna November 23, 2009 at 11:06 pm

When your kids are playing ring around the rosie or running around the house, do it with them! It’s the best way to get your exercise and watch the kids at the same time.

I’m not a mom (although I do love being an Auntie), but I think this blog is great! I work like a crazy woman, so I probably have about as little free time as you moms out there. The best way I fit in exercise is two fold: I belong to a gym that is open 24 hours (who needs sleep?) and I take every opportunity to walk & play with my dog (we both need the exercise & enjoy the time we get to spend goofing around together!) Thanks for such an awesome contest!!

  • by Sarah L November 24, 2009 at 4:43 am

Well, aside from waking up in the middle of the night (if you don’t already do this with one child!)…we take lots of walks and during the winter we are sure to hit the childrens museum often. I also own workout videos…..but usually am so exhausted that I cannot stand to do them! I meet my friends at the gym to walk on the treadmill and chat too!

  • by Danielle November 24, 2009 at 7:06 am

I have 3 boys, one of which is not in school yet. I have found that doing my workout and then showering while he is napping seems to work out best for me. Otherwise, I would have to get up even earlier than I already do (5:45) and I just can’t even stand the thought of that.

I use the Wii to lose weight and get in shape. I get up early and do 1 1/2 hours every morning. 1 hour of Golds Gym Cardi Boxing and 30 minutes of EA Active Sports. I have lost 40 lbs in 5 months with this routine and still am able to take care of my 4 yr old and 5 yr old (they join in most of the time).

  • by Beth November 24, 2009 at 12:28 pm

I squeeze in a few squats and lunges and such while waiting on the microwave or toaster oven. It’s not much, but it adds up!

I EXERCISE BETWEEN NAPS, OR WHEN THEIR GRANDMOTHER PICKS THEM UP ON OCCASION. I TRY TO GET MY EXERCISE BEFORE NOON. GIVING THEM AN ACTIVITY TO DO ON THEIR OWN IS ALSO GREAT SO I CAN GET SOME WORK DONE, THEY ALSO TEND TO JOIN IN THE ROUTINE. WHICH CAN BE FUN & I DONT MIND. ;)

  • by Tamara Gomez November 27, 2009 at 4:15 pm

As soon as I get home with my 8 year old, I put on my workout clothes before I do anything else so that I don’t lose motivation. I start dinner and while it is cooking I pop in one of my Jillian Michaels DVD and workout. If I have to, I let my daughter eat first and then I have my dinner when I’m done. It’s all about multitasking!

  • by Stephanie November 27, 2009 at 4:35 pm

Well, I’m not a mom, but I do end up being pretty busy. I like going to the gym right after work, before going home. I let my boyfriend take care of dinner (you could have your husband take care of dinner those nights?)

Another idea is to go for a walk with the whole family around a nearby park or neighborhood. Everyone gets some exercise and fresh air!

:) Thank you for the wonderful giveaway! :)

  • by MissCaron December 1, 2009 at 8:05 pm

I have been a nanny for years and the little kids are the best to work out with … just use them as weights … lots of arm movements and you can lie on your back with the child on your legs or feet and move your legs around … very easy and lots of fun for both you and the child!

  • by Julie December 1, 2009 at 9:35 pm

You can make the kids part of the exercise time. Walking with them, pushing the stroller, that counts, just keep the pace up. You can play with the kids with the Wii too. Get the more active games or the exercise programs and have them work out with you.

Hi, I’m not much of a blogger. I work in fitness with my children by playing with them. I love the classic kid games like tag, red rover, hide and seek. We all find ways to run around the yard and stay active. Wii is another avenue to stay active with the kids when the weather is cold outside.

We take walks to the park so we both get exercise.

I try to include the kids in my exercise, for example I walk them to the park while pushing the stroller.

Haha…exercise?! I must admit that I don’t fit structured exercise in with my kids. My exercise is just chasing them around, running up and down the stairs with baskets of laundry, and lifting the kids in and out of high chairs and cribs!

My husband got me a Wii for my birthday…and, I’ve had the Wii Fit Plus on my wishlist ever since! I’d love to win it!

    Thanks for the chance!

Nap time! That was really the only time I had to exercise when my son was a little younger. I did start walking, while pushing him in the stroller, for more activity.

I try to work out while nobody is awake. I also try not to sit for too long.
