Holiday Gift Guide 2009: Super Soaker 50

November 3, 2009 by Caryn

I know it probably sounds CRAZY that I’m talking about water toys, but my car read 91 degrees today.  Yes…it’s November but that doesn’t matter in Southern California!  I even thought about turning on the air conditioning today.  So what do you do when it’s hot outside?  We play with water toys (not ready to jump in that cold pool these days!).

Super-Soaker-50_1If you’re as old as I am (hehe) you actually remember playing with Hasbro’s Super Soaker.  If you can believe it, this toy has been around for 20 years (and I do remember playing with it as a little girl).  If you’re not familiar with what it is, here’s a little recap:

To commemorate 20 years of supreme soakage, the iconic SUPER SOAKER brand is reintroducing the original SUPER SOAKER 50, the very first blaster that redefined outdoor fun.  The colorful SUPER SOAKER 50 holds up to 25 ounces of water and blasts up to 35 feet! Back and better than ever, the SUPER SOAKER 50 blaster combines a cool retro look with modern high-powered performance.

Ok…if you want to get wet…I mean REALLY get wet, this is the toy for your child (or the kid in you!).  It’s designed for children over the age of 6 (so it’s too heavy for my son to actually hold and shoot with) but my husband had a blast squirting water at him!  The “50″ in the title is a bit of a misnomer because it only shoots 35 feet (apparently the original did shoot up to 50 feet which is just crazy).  But who’s really measuring right?

Hasbro offers a number of variations on the Super Soaker, all at affordable pricing.  This version retails for $14.99 (but I found one on Amazon for $74.99 (seriously?).

Oh my!!! I’m going to date myself here…I rememeber when these first came out! I was getting ready to go into middle school! My dad bought one and no one was allowed to touch it. He would run after us soaking us every step of the way!

HAHAHAHA, you’re talking about super soakers in November! But, that’s a good thing because you’ll be rockin’ it come June! I love super soakers though.
