ThinkFun *Giveaway* Published on Thursday, October 1, 2009 by

This giveaway is now closed.  Thanks for stopping by.  The winner is Lily K. Congrats!

I grew up as an only child and spent a lot of time playing games with my parents.  It was actually one of my favorite things to do (apart from Barbies, My Little Pony, and Cabbage Patch Kids).  I grew up playing your traditional Life, Monopoly, Clue, and Candy Land.  Games are a great way to encourage social interaction and discussion among family members.  They’re also educational and very often encourage creative thinking.

THINKFUNLOGOWe recently had an opportunity to check out a few games from ThinkFun.  I like the name of their company because that is exactly what their games do…they make thinking fun!  Children are capable of learning so much through play.  Here is a little more information about the company:

At ThinkFun, we want to encourage children everywhere to realize their full potential by challenging their minds to push farther, probe deeper and think more creatively through game play.  We offer a range of award-winning games for children in important stages of growth and learning. Our desire is to provide an assortment of unique products for a variety of interests and skill levels. Our games are easy to learn and play. They engage single players or groups of players with themes and situations that create energy and excitement.

I-0104-7911_SMALLOne of the things you’ll notice when you visit the site is that the games are sorted by age and category.  This really helps a parent focus on games that are appropriate for their child’s age and development.  Many of the games resemble traditional games you are probably familiar with but with a twist.

I-0210-6702_SMALLFor example, S’match incorporates memory (a classic) with the added challenge of having children spin to match colors, numbers or categories.  Hoppers Junior takes the game of solitaire to a new level with over 40 challenges. Many of the games offer more than just one level of difficulty which helps challenge children, keeping them interested and excited.

Many of their games are reasonably priced, under $20.  Be sure to check out their weekly special for incredible deals!

Win It!  One of you will win a copy of S’match.  Just leave me a comment with the name of a game you’d like to try with your children (that wasn’t mentioned in my review).  Comments will close on October 16, 2009 at 10 PM PST.  One comment per person, please (unless you do the extra credit). US residents only. Duplicates and comments not including the above information will be disqualified. Comments are moderated. If you don’t see your comment in a reasonable amount of time, send me an email. Bloggers and non-bloggers may enter. If you don’t want to leave your email address, please be sure to check back for my announcement on the winner. Please note that winners must respond within 48 hours of being announced/contacted or another winner will be drawn.

Want an extra entry? Do any or all of the following and receive an extra entry for each one.

Be sure to leave me a separate comment for each additional entry.

When my daughter was 6 I bought her “Shape by Shape.” It was amazing at how fast she figured out the puzzles. One day she did 7 of them in 10 minutes. Mind you these are rated for 8 and up…LOL!
We would also like to try Rush Hour.

I’ve never heard of them, but we love games in this family so it’s a great suggestion. We’ve been doing all the traditional games like candyland and life and such. The boys might enjoy some of these. Thanks for the heads up!
