HP Is Helping You Stay Connected This Fall! (Printer Giveaway)

Posted by Caryn Bailey 390 Comments

This giveaway is now closed.  Thanks for stopping by!  The winner is Stephanie V.  A huge CONGRATS!

My husband and I are very “connected.”  My husband, in particular, is a gadget and tech guy.  He loves electronics and he loves checking out “the latest.”  HP recently launched the world’s first Web-connected home printer offering people simple, one-touch, wireless, on-demand access to free, popular Web content. You can access coupons, maps, recipes, calendars, Sudoku puzzles, coloring pages and much more…and you never have to go on the Web.  On September 9, 2009, HP will announce the retail availability of the HP Photosmart Premium with TouchSmart Web printer.

HP-Photosmart-Premium-with-TouchSmart-Web-5

Here is a little more information about this printer from the site (I realize it’s long but it gives a very good explanation of how this printer is innovative in this industry):

The HP Photosmart Premium with TouchSmart Web features an entirely new web-based printing platform with HP applications (apps). Similar to other Internet-connected devices, these apps, which are viewable on an extra-large, intuitive-to-use TouchSmart panel, allow people to connect instantly with fun, informative and personal content.

The world’s first HP app partners will be USA TODAY, Google, Fandango, Coupons.com, DreamWorks Animation, Nickelodeon, Web Sudoku and Weathernews Inc. Through these apps, people will have free access to customized daily news, maps, coupons, coloring pages, movie tickets, recipes, personal calendars and more – all at the touch of a finger.  The new printers also will connect directly to a user’s Snapfish account to view, print and upload photos. People additionally can access projects from the HP Creative Studio.

This printer will be available in the fall and will retail for $399.

Win It! One of you very, very lucky readers will win this printer!  Simply leave me a comment with your idea for a new printing application (must be original, please).  HP really wants to know what printing apps will be helpful to you and your families.  Comments will close on September 8th, 2009 at 10 PM PST.  One comment per person, please (unless you do the extra credit). US residents only. Duplicates and comments not including the above information will be disqualified. Comments are moderated. If you don’t see your comment in a reasonable amount of time, send me an email. Bloggers and non-bloggers may enter. If you don’t want to leave your email address, please be sure to check back for my announcement on the winner. Please note that winners must respond within 48 hours of being announced/contacted or another winner will be drawn.

Want an extra entry?

Follow me on Twitter AND tweet about the contest. Alternatively, you can spread the word about this contest via blog or Facebook or another social media venue, but only 1 extra entry will be given total.

I would love an application that made two cards out of a picture. One page would be two notes. You would fold the paper (the fold line would be to fold the longest side. The folded page would be cut in half to create two cards. The front of the card would be a picture (my idea would be a picture of my child with a gift she recieved) and the inside would have a thank you note printed (my daughter would also write or draw on the inside of the thank you card once printed for the person who gave them the gift). The printer could printed on one side and then the user could resert the paper flipped over to print on the other. It would not just have to be thank you note other cards or invitation would also be great.

I want to be able to print from anywhere. I would love for there to be a program that maybe is synced to my cell phone where I could enter a code (no matter where I was) and it be printed at home. Time is always against me so if I could save a step by sending from my phone to my printer and it be ready when I got back home, that would be so incredible!

Printing coupons from the internet has always seemed wasteful to me. One little coupon uses a whole sheet of paper. Is there a way for the printer to wait until there are enough coupons in the queue and print only when there are enough coupons to fill an entire page?

Very cool. I really love the “app” concept for a printer.

As far as apps are concerned, I think I’d use the Google maps one quite frequently.

And how about in app with the USPS where users could print their own postage? That would be pure genius.

Hmmm…what else? I’d love to see an app with allrecipes.com. That is my all-time-favorite recipe site.

Or an app to allow users to instantly print photos in wallet sizes.

    So many possibilities…

Wow! This looks like quiet the gadget! I would have to say an app to create cards for any occasion would be awesome. You could just upload the photo select a background and print your Christmas cards from home. Also it would be nice to have a photo editing app to remove red-eye make things bigger or smaller and ability to change it to black and white or sephia?? I love creating something others didn’t know you could! Thanks for the oppportunity!

I would love an app for this printer that allowed me to adjust photos for printing (just some of the basics–like enlarge, reduce, black and white, color, opaque). These would be great. My most frequent use would probably be google maps though. I use that all the time but hardly ever print due to the funkiness of our old printer.

I LOVE that the ink is so cheap with these printers. I’m a photographer and so I do a lot of printing from my own home for friends and family. It’s all free for them, but it’s expensive for me. I would love a printer that could save specific templates from my photoshop for cards/invitations and then I could just pick the photos, click on the template I want, and WHAM, there ya go!

I desperately could use a blank calendar app. Between my own 5 kids, the 20 kids at church that I work with, my hubby’s soldiers, and just life in general, I am always hand drawing blank calendars. They are a great way to keep track of anything and everything! Especially homework, notes back and forth with teachers, planning meals, ect.

I have loads of my late partner’s articles he wrote for various publications, magazines and newspapers and I would like an application where I could input the entire file into the printer and it would print them in the order in which they were written as all are dated. I have tons of recipes in a folder and I would like to feed them into a printer and have them sorted and printed (more than one to a page where space allows) according to type i.e. appetizers, breakfast, lunch, entree et al. which I have designated on every one. Perhaps using a code number per item or whatever. Don’t know if these are possible but I figure that if anybody could do it HP could.

In my house we re-use our paper for recycling and budgeting purposes. So if i’ve printed out several drafts of song lyrics all the earlier copies go back in the print tray. The problem is when we need to print something on the nice paper. It invariably ends up on already printed paper OR somebody (read, my husband) forgets to put the recycled paper back in the tray. So I would like a printer app that switches paper for you automatically so we could avoid this problem. Thanks!

I’d like to be able to edit the text and be able to overlay photos on a single page so I could have the whole map plus one or more zoomed-in areas for more detail.

I would love an app. that actually cuts the sides of the paper. Such as curves or designs around the paper. This would be so much simplier then printing than cutting the edges by hand.. I not sure if that counts as an app. since it has to do more with the actual printing. But you would have to use an app. to set everything before printing. Really great contest..

I would dearly love a printer that could recongnize that whatever pages I decide to print out has one sentence on that last sheet and be able to either give us a choice to see it and choose to not print that or squeeze it into the prior sheet.
So many times I’ve printed a recipe or similar items and 9 out of 10 times I get that and it’s a total waste of paper, although I turn it over and use it again for somthing else this is high on my pet peeves list.

I’d like an app that made printing coupons easier. That is the most frustrating problem I have with printing. I find great coupons online, but when I go to print them they are too big and print across multiple pages, or the bar codes aren’t readable, or they just never print at all. I realize it is because the companies are trying to prevent coupon fraud, but it is frustrating. So I’d like an app that works directly with the various coupon printing sites so I can actually print the coupons I need.

I would love if others (whom I had given permission) could access my printer through the web and send print outs to it…Saves me the trouble of having to read the email, download the attachment and print it out. Would be great for when dear hubby is on the road at work..

A new application I would love to recommend is an application for Ebay Sellers. My husband has been selling parts of his grandmother’s estate on Ebay since she passed away and I know for sure that an application that would with the touch of a finger and the touch of a button print out shipping labels, Ebay account records, Paypal records, etc. would be extremely beneficial and useful. I am sure there are thousands of other Ebay sellers who use Ebay as their home based business would love this as well. I know personally we would most definitely use the applications that already exist for printing out recipes, maps from google maps and many coupons from coupons.com. The existing apps are all very appealing too! Thank you so much for the wonderful chance to enter.

Hmmm, my initial mandatory entry never appeared, that is weird! I am going to resubmit it in case it was lost in cyberspace somehow! I noticed my twitter entry appeared, but not the original entry prior to it. Let’s see if I can recapture what I originally wrote:

Since there are so many giveaways and contests going on in the blogword, what about and app. that would be an organizer for them, a way to keep track of what’s new, what’s expiring, a place for your own comments and a place for the details of the giveaway and then be able to print them out would be awesome and so useful. Thanks Caryn for twittering, I almost missed getting in on this super giveaway. Have a nice evening! 🙂
