The Perfect Day… Published on Thursday, April 9, 2009 by

My husband and I had an unexpected day off together earlier in the week.   We slept in woke up half past dark (thanks to our human alarm clock), had a gourmet breakfast (which we shoveled in while taking turns playing with and entertaining my son), and took a lovely, leisurely stroll to the park.  We pushed my son on the swings as he called out “higher, higher” and watched him run sand through his hands over and over in amazement.  At one point I sat there on a swing, observing my husband and my son, and thinking about how blessed I am…how blessed we are.

In that moment, sitting on the swings with the wind blowing and the sun shining and my husband laughing and my son squealing…all of life’s stresses seemed so far away…so unimportant. My son is almost two.  I can’t help thinking about how ironic life is.  That first year, wrought with overwhelming exhaustion and nervousness about my competency as a parent seemed to drag on and on.  And now….as my son approaches two…I look back and wonder how a year has passed so quickly.  My baby who couldn’t walk or speak is now running and having conversations with me.  Life is short….so short…and all I want right now is to remember how perfect today is…and do it all over again tomorrow.

What a beautiful post, Caryn! Thanks so much for sharing. My youngest daughter is almost 2 as well, and most likely will be our last, so I, too, am enjoying all those precious moments with her. I love this stage – where they’re curious about everything, learning new words everyday, and so attached to mommy and daddy. I just wish it would last longer!

Oh My! Those are just the most precious pictures I have ever seen. I don’t have children but I have nieces and nephews and photos like that are rare.

    He’s BEAUTIFUL~~~~

What a great post! And a lovely photo. Your son is so handsome with his curly hair and chocolate-colored eyes.
