Green Me! Primo Water Review & Giveaway (10 Winners!) Published on Monday, September 8, 2008 by

*Update*

This contest is now closed.  Thank you for stopping by and entering!  The winners are:  Linda Lansford, Margaret Smith, Trish, Kerrie, Xenia, Diana Hogle, Nora, K Cleaver, Bonnie Day, and Dena!  Whew!  Congratulations!

I’ve always tried to do my best to reduce, reuse, and recycle.  It’s only been in the last couple of years that I’ve really gotten serious about doing research, evaluating my current lifestyle, and making changes that will help preserve our environment.  I have to admit that there are some things I just don’t want to let go of…like my bottled water.  I grew up on bottled water.  It’s a habit…a way of life.  When we were dating, my husband used to tease me about not going anywhere without my bottle of water.

With recent concerns regarding chemical leaching and the ginormous amount of oil required to make plastic water bottles comes Primo, a company who has designed an environmentally-friendly bottle made from plants rather than crude oil. If you can believe it, we could save a million or a couple of hundred million gallons of gas a year if we all used natural plastics derived from plants.  So how do they do it?  Watch the video here!

I was first introduced to Primo at BlogHer earlier this summer.  Being green-minded I was very interested in comparing the taste of their water versus my Costco water.  I have to say that the water tasted really good…most likely you won’t notice any difference between the bottled water you’re drinking now and Primo’s water.  I’ll be completely honest with you.  I don’t like tap water and I know for certain that I won’t be carrying around a reusable water bottle all day hoping I come across a place to fill up.  I have never liked the taste of tap water and I like the convenience of having a water bottle at hand at all times.  I love that the bottles are BPA-free and  recyclable…that means it’s good for you and the planet!

Primo Water is available at grocery stores nationwide and priced at $4.99 for a case of 18 .  Find a location here.  Want to learn more about why your body needs water?  Check out their 3 webisodes on Youtube here!

Win It!  Primo Water is offering 10 readers (that’s right 10!) each a case of water.  Head on over to the site and take the H20 IQ Test.  Come back here and leave me a comment with something new you learned.  Comments will close on September 18, 2008 at 10 pm PST and I will announce the winner here the following day. One comment per person, please. US residents only. Duplicates and comments not including the above information will be disqualified. Comments are moderated. If you don’t see your comment in a reasonable amount of time, send me an email. Bloggers and non-bloggers may enter. If you don’t want to leave your email address, please be sure to check back for my announcement on the winner. Please note that winners must respond within 48 hours of being announced/contacted or another winner will be drawn.

Want an extra entry? Follow me on Twitter. Be sure to send me a message letting me know since it’s getting a little difficult keeping up with everyone who just started following to gain an extra contest entry!

Bottled water can be kept indefinitely if stored properly. The FDA has not established a shelf life for bottled water. The IBWA (International Bottled Water Association) advises consumers to store bottled water at room temperature (or cooler), out of direct sunlight and away from solvents and chemicals such as gasoline, paint thinners and dry-cleaning chemicals.

For those who do not believe a couple summers ago we bought water at a hardware store- a major chain, and the chemicals they had by the cases transfered and contaimentated the bottles- – we packed them for a trip and were drinking one the first night and all got sick from the taste and dumped the rest, but called the water company and they informed us they would call the store to take care of the storage problem..even if for a short time. Keep away from anything that may transfer

I too was shocked to find out that Only 1% of the Earth’s water is available for drinking water. I suppose that if I had thought about it a little longer, I would have remembered that most of the water is salty — but it’s early and I haven’t had coffee yet!!

Thank you so much for a great (and healthy) giveaway!!

  • by Linda White September 8, 2008 at 2:10 pm

  • by Shannon Edwards September 8, 2008 at 4:24 pm

I scored 7 out of 8 correct. My missed question was regarding the percentage of water that is available to drink. I was shocked to learn that only 1% of the Earth’s water is able to be used for human consumption! I originally guessed at 5%.

  • by Cindy Jolly September 8, 2008 at 5:49 pm

Wow I learned we really to conserve water.

  • by AmandaK September 8, 2008 at 6:38 pm

I was SHOCKED! we were sorta poor, and I thought it was the silliest thing EVER. YOu don’t buy water. Now here it is 2008 and you either buy bottles or have filters etc.

  • by Patrice September 9, 2008 at 2:25 pm

I wish that I had known the fact that bottled water can be stored indefinitely (if properly stored). I had been keeping a gallon jug of bottled water for emergencies. Since it was a few years old, I was afraid that it was no longer any good for drinking, so I used it to water some of my plants.

  • by Rosanne Morrison September 9, 2008 at 2:54 pm

Only 1% is available for drinking and I got a perfect score just a guess on that one
