Music is an integral part of our family. My husband sings and I played the piano for many years.  Both of my children enjoy music, particularly my daughter who literally dances every time she hears a song (even if it's simply on television). With reality shows like American Idol, many children and young adults enjoy exploring their own musical talent.

Before I had children, I spent a lot of time in the car. Â I lived in LA and my commutes for work or leisure could very well be over an hour. Â Rather than stressing over the time I would spend sitting parked on the 405, I turned to music. Â I hooked my iPod up to my stereo and set up playlists from music I had downloaded from iTunes. Â Rather than just tolerating tha... Read More »

On those rare occasions when the kids are napping in the car or they're with my husband, I relish the opportunity to listen to "grown-up" music. Â I'm very open to a wide variety of music genre and recently had an opportunity to check out the Soundtrack to Pretty Little Liars.

I don't have time to watch a lot of television. There is so much beauty to explore...new places to discover. I'm busy and I prefer it that way. But on those evenings when the kids have actually managed to go to sleep at a decent hour and I just want to relax and do nothing, I turn on Glee.
The show is really one of the best I've seen in a long time...and I'm ... Read More »

Once upon a single life without kids, I would often have people tell me that I looked like Norah Jones. To be honest, I don't really see it (she's much prettier than I am), but I humbly accepted those compliments. The very first time I heard this, I didn't know who Norah Jones was. So I did some research and started listening to one of her albums. I was hooked.Â... Read More »

Tomorrow afternoon, Aracely and I are heading over to Irvine Meadows in a sporty Chevy Camaro for Lilith Fair. The lineup includes Sarah McLachlan and Emmylou Harris (I've wanted to see both in concert for years). This celebration of women in music is currently making it's way across the country.
You can follow us on Twitter and I'll be posting pics and updat... Read More »

People always ask me where I'm from...my ethnic background. My married name is very American, but I have this "exotic" look about me (at least that's what my husband's family says!). While I'm 100% Puerto Rican, you wouldn't likely know it from speaking to me. My Spanish is limited to the three years I studied in high school and my very American accent. Somewh... When I was a little girl, I played the piano. In the beginning, it wasn't something I was particularly fond of (sorry mom!). But as time went on, I came to really enjoy my piano lessons. I still played the piano through college, mostly for fun. I write a lot about music and children because I believe that music has tremendous benefits for children. Some of t... After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

I hope my son is grows up with an appreciation for music. Â My husband sings at church and I started playing the piano before I could walk (well...maybe not THAT young!). Â I was in the choir in high school and have sung in our church choir off and on. Â Needless to say he will be exposed to music via parents who appreciate it's richness and beauty. Â Did you know tha... Read More »
