Hanes Goes “Pink” *Giveaway*

May 20, 2010

This giveaway is now closed. Congrats to Barbara #61!

Apart from non-melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women (CDC), yet, no cure has been found to date.  Thankfully, there are organizations like Susan G. Komen for the Cure, dedicated to education and research about causes, treatment, and a cure for this disease.

Hanes has teamed up with Susan G. Komen and Actress Melina Kanakaredes in the fight against breast cancer.  Hanes will be the official T-shirt of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Series. Komen will provide Hanes t-shirts to the 1.5 million people who participate in the series every year. Hanes will also offer a special “pink collection” of panties, bras, socks, and graphic tees — including three T-shirts exclusively designed by Melina Kanakaredes.  These T-shirts, which communicate strength, hope, and fearlessness,  are designed to honor those affected by the disease.  Additionally, Hanes will also donate $500,000 to Komen in 2010.

You can view the “pink” T-shirts on the Hanes website and at Walmart locations across the country.  The complete “pink” collection will be available on the Hanes website and in select stores this fall.

Win It! One of you will win a Hanes Pink Tee designed by Melina Kanakaredes.  Simply leave me a comment with something you learned about breast cancer.  Comments will close on June 3, 2010 at 11:59 PM PST.  One comment per person, please (unless you do the extra credit). Musselman’s Helps To Fight Breast Cancer *Giveaway*

January 6, 2010

This giveaway is now closed. Thanks for stopping by.  The winner is Jen Eason. Congrats!

It’s not often that I write about causes.  But breast cancer is one such issue I feel strongly about.  Part of the reason I feel so strongly about it, is that I knew a girl in nursing school who was a breast cancer survivor.  She was misdiagnosed (due to her young age) and ended up with advanced stage breast cancer.  I always think about her when someone says those two words…breast cancer.  I hope one day a cure is found.  More than that, I hope one day someone discovers how to successfully prevent or even eradicate the disease.

Musselman’s (a company I’ve had the privilege of working with on several occasions), announced last week that it will help in the fight against breast cancer.  The company has pledged to donate ten cents to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) for every package of Musselman’s Natural Apple Sauce purchased in January.  The NBCF works to raise awareness for the disease via education and mammograms.

This video features Peggy Fleming talking about her experience with breast cancer and sharing details about what Musselman’s is doing to help others in need of support.

We like to eat applesauce just the way it is.  But you can also use applesauce in a variety of recipes including meals.  The site has over 60 recipes featuring applesauce including Appled Sweet Potatoes, Grilled Mango Chicken Wraps, and Apple Harvest Cake.  For more information on how Musselman‘s is partnering with the NBCF or information about their line of products, simply visit their site.

Win It! One of you will win a pink ribbon package, courtesy of Musselman’s with Natural Apple Sauce and recipes.  Simply leave me a comment with the name of another product or recipe you’d like to try from their site. Comments will close on January 20, 2010 at 10 PM PST.  One comment per person, please (unless you do the extra credit). US residents only. Pink Ribbon Collection by KN Karen Neuburger

December 25, 2009

It’s the rare occasion when one gets to lay around all day in her pajamas.  Having a baby (and major surgery) gives me a great excuse to do just that.  And I have just the perfect pajamas to do such important things in (recovery is hard work!).

I was first introduced to KN Karen Neuburger through it’s association with First Book, an organization that provides new books to needy children.  The company sells kid’s pajamas with characters from Tallulah in the Kitchen and sales benefit First Book.  I also like their “Mommy and Me” pajamas which also benefit the organization.

pink lady boyfriend pjsI like to be comfortable when I sleep and a cozy pair of pajamas is perfect for lounging around in the evenings, particularly in the winter.  KN Karen Neuburger recently introduced their KN Pink Ribbon collection.  Proceeds from sales benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation year round.  The line includes the Pink Lady Nightshirt and PJ’s, a pair of adorable slippers, and a few other “pink” items.  The Pink Lady PJ’s are perfect for the winter (I’ve been wearing these the last few days).  They’re soft and roomy and look so feminine (I just love pink).  The front pocket has the signature pink ribbon on it.

KN Karen Neuburger is “a lifestyle brand dedicated to bringing comfort and luxury into the community.”  I support the fact that they donate proceeds to such an important organization.  The KN Pink Lady Boyfriend Pajamas retail for $72 and are available for purchase online and retailers such as Macy’s, Nordstrom, Dillard’s, and Bon-Ton.

Going Pink For the Cure *Giveaway*

October 19, 2009

This giveaway is now closed.  Thanks for stopping by.  The winner is Deb K. Congrats!

By now I’ve shared with you my heart and passion for breast cancer awareness.  I went to nursing school with a girl who was a breast cancer survivor.  She shared her story in front of all of us and the one thing that stuck in my mind, was how doctor after doctor after doctor had dismissed her symptoms as benign since she was so young.   How years (yes years) went by before she was officially diagnosed with breast cancer.  How it had metastasized to various parts of her body.  How she was a survivor. How she was the one who had found her cancer in the first place.

We all know about monthly self breast exams and how important they are.  We all know we need to get a yearly exam.  But how many of us actually do these things?  October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  Every year the goal is to get this information out to as many women as possible.  Every year companies work to raise money towards a cure.  This year is no different.  If one woman goes to get her mammogram or starts to do her monthly self breast exams, then it will have been worth it (at least to me).

I hope none of you who read this have been affected by breast cancer. But that is just a hope…it’s not a reality.  The reality is that one of you probably has been affected…a friend…a sister…a mother.  Pink Together is an online community where those touched by breast cancer can connect, provide support, comfort, and encouragement to one another. You’ll find inspiring stores of survivors and supporters within in the community.  The site is part of a national campaign to support those affected by the disease and it’s goal is to raise awareness.

Many companies are doing their part and one such company is General Mills who donated $2 million to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  They have turned many of their packaging pink and will continue to donate $1 (up to $20,000) each time a comment of encouragement is posted, a virtual flower bouquet is sent or a story is shared on the site through the end of October.  I hope many of you will check out the site.

Pink Together Inspiring Hope Gift PackWin It! I really want to help generate awareness so I’m offering one of you the chance to win an Inspiring Hope gift basket that includes a sleeved travel mug, a running ribbon charm bracelet, a pink leather strap keychain, a pink cinch bag, and a set of inspirational note cards. All of the gift basket items are from ShopKomen.com, where 25 percent of the merchandise purchase price benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure® in the fight against breast cancer.  Simply leave me a comment with something you found inspiring on the site.  Comments will close on November 2, 2009 at 10 PM PST.  One comment per person, please (unless you do the extra credit). Yoplait: Save Lids To Save Lives *Giveaway*

October 13, 2009

This giveaway is now closed.  Thanks for stopping by.  The winner is Ingrid.  Congrats!

As I mentioned yesterday, October is breast cancer awareness month.  Many companies are doing their part to raise awareness and money to help find a cure.  Yoplait is one such company.  According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime (approx. 12%).  That’s too many.  If you buy Yoplait yogurt, you may have noticed the pink lids (I know I have!).

stk-sitebadge-large-1Yoplait is making it easy for us to make a difference and contribute to the cause.  All you have to do is save those pink lids from September and October and mail them in before December 31. Yoplait will donate 10 cents to Susan G. Komen For the Cure (up to $1.5 million) for every lid received.  The minimum donation Yoplait has committed to is $500,000.   If you visit the site, you’ll be able to create online lid collection teams and engage with friends, family, and colleagues to join the cause.  In addition, Dr. Kristi Funk, Founder of the Pink Lotus Breast Center in Beverly Hills, is joining Yoplait to educate women and men about the importance of breast cancer risk reduction, early detection, and ways to support the cause.

Yoplait has donated more than $22 million to breast cancer through this program over the last 11 years.  Last year, with your help, Yoplait met it’s donation goal of $1.5 million to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Yoplait SLSL Gift PhotoWin It! One of you will win a “Promise to Make a Difference” gift which includes a coupon for Yoplait YoPlus Yogurt, a breast cancer awareness bracelet, and a leather jewelry case.  Just leave me a comment with a way you will help Yoplait in the fight against breast cancer. Will you start or join a collection team on the site?  Will you blog or tweet about it?  Will you save and mail in lids?  What will YOU do to join in this cause?  Comments will close on October 28, 2009 at 10 PM PST.  One comment per person, please (unless you do the extra credit). Swiffer Is Going Pink for October!

October 12, 2009

Earlier this year, I reviewed the Swiffer Sweeper (which is a fab little cleaning device that sweeps AND mops).  As you may know, October is Breast Cancer awareness month and for the first time, Swiffer is going Pink and offering limited edition Swiffer Dusters and Sweepers.  Proceeds will benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the funds will be used for education on self-examiniation, mammography, and the importance of an early detection plan.

As a nurse, a women, and a mom, breast cancer awareness is something I’m passionate about.  I support companies who direct their efforts towards research and funding to find a cure.  Swiffer is one of 35 participating P& G brands and you can find the new limited edition pink Swiffer Sweepers and  Swiffer Dusters in individual packaging as well as a new three-in-one pack.

Pink SweeperPink Duster Fork

High Res SweeperSo what is a Swiffer Sweeper? It’s like a broom and a mop all in one.  I like the fact that the product allows me to get under the refrigerator and into hard-to-reach corners.  The product comes with both dry and wet cloths which are disposable.  You can use the Swiffer Sweeper on most surfaces including linoleum, vinyl, creamic, and finished wood floors.

The Swiffer Sweeper retails for $10.99 (very reasonable) and the new limited edition products can be found at retailers nationwide.

Gal to Gal Virtual Walk

October 1, 2008

Many of you know that October is breast cancer awareness month.  Every year the Gal to Gal Foundation puts on a virtual walk across the country to help raise awareness about women and families living with stage IV breast cancer. The walk starts today and lasts through the end of the month.  It only takes a minute of your time (and $5) and it’s for a great cause.   Go pink for the cure!
