The teen years seem like a lifetime away. But if I am honest with myself, I only have a few years before my sweet babies will be facing the challenges of middle school and high school. We are striving to raise our children to be responsible, empathetic individuals who can look beyond themselves to their community and our world to make a difference, but this kind of inspiration cannot come from just us. It is the important work of organizations like Team Kids, that will help “inspire and empower young people to become resilient, responsible citizens with a passion for community service.”
This Sunday, March 24th, 2013, Team Kids will host their 7th annual Imagine Celebration at Il Fornaio restaurant in Irvine, California. This family-friendly event will feature an Italian buffet, entertainment, and a gathering of families and community leaders to raise awareness about the work Team Kids is doing right here in Orange County.
I had an opportunity to spend some time with founder of Team Kids last week, and I was so moved by the work they are doing. Through school-based and community service programs, Team Kids is instrumental in empowering youth to be positive change agents. Some of the projects the participants have been involved with include conducting book drives to help children in need of books and delivering meals to the firefighters who helped fight the Santiago Fire. What is also incredibly honorable about Team Kids is the fact that 100% of the funds and resources raised by the children go directly to the designated charity. Here is a short video which gives a bit more insight as to what Team Kids does:
