As someone who is very discerning about the products we use, I've often found that in some instances, there is no natural or environmentally-friendly alternative. Right around the time when we learned that I was pregnant with my son, I stopped using conventional cleaning products,... Read More »

Do small changes really make a difference? I constantly ask myself this question when I'm shopping at the grocery store, separating my recyclables, setting our thermostat, turning off lights, and doing my laundry. I don't know that I'll personally see a reduction in pollution or a diminished burden on our landfills by recycling. But I do know that I can track sa... Read More »

In the past, my appliance research and shopping efforts were focused on efficiency, functionality and cost. After 2 months with Whirlpool's Laundry Duet Pair, I've come to appreciate the importance and usefulness of investing in appliances that incorporate innovation and technology.
I'll be completely honest...I don't know that I would have sought out machines wi... Read More »

For as long as I've been purchasing appliances, I've made it a point to invest in those that are Energy Star rated. What this means is that those products "meet strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the EPA and US Department of Energy" and save consumers money while protecting the environment. Beyond the Energy Star rating, I also look for appliances that will la... Read More »

It seems relatively easy. Sort. Wash. Dry. Fold. Put Away. Does that sound like your laundry regimen? There are weeks when there is so much laundry, I go into auto-pilot just to get it all done. Like this week when my husband came home from weeks of traveling and I had 6 loads to do in one day. Talk about giving my washer and dryer a workout!

Up until a few weeks ago, I didn't really have a laundry regimen. We have a white basket that sits outside of our bedroom door and most of the time, all our clothing makes it's way in there. Laundry is one of those chores that I don't despise, but don't particularly enjoy. But if I did not do the laundry, it would not get done. My husband is such that I'll start... Read More »

For years, I've been wondering why my cooking skills are not up to par with the likes of Bobby Flay and Giada DeLaurentiis. Or why my children's pasta stains are permanently engraved into their clothing. It turns out, I missed out on a few key principles having to do with kitchen and laundry science (yes, it's a science!) during my high school Home Ec. class.

I have a drawer where I keep those clothes that are permanently stained. It's my go-to drawer for those days where my son will be painting or otherwise getting messy. I've learned to accept stains as this proof that I have children (or something). But that doesn't mean I'... Read More »

I spend a good part of each day cleaning up messes. Crumbs and crayons are just some of the messes I've cleaned up in the last few days! Ironically, there are just a few times during the early years when messiness is welcomed...even encouraged.
Both of my children's first birthdays involved lots of crumbs and frosting (and I'm not talking about on the cake). It... Read More »

Being a mom means that sometimes, I have to get dirty. Whether it's at home in the kitchen or outside in the park, dirt...and stains are inevitable.
Earlier this week, my son and I went to bat against stains...literally! Frigidaire kicked off Stain Games in Los Angeles with ambassador Jennifer Garner to help raise funds and awareness for Save the Children’s ... Read More »

I remember my son's first birthday like it was yesterday. His love for trains started early, and it seemed fitting to celebrate in one of the old trains at Travel Town. For a first birthday party, it went surprisingly well and the kids really enjoyed the venue. For many children, their first birthday is their first exposure to cake, as was the case with my son. ... Last week, I told you about a pretty fabulous contest from Sears and Whirlpool. Through January 31st, they've teamed up to give away a Whirlpool Duet laundry pair and this is one super easy contest I would LOVE to enter. Both the washer and dryer are front-loading which means they are energy efficient, water conserving machines! This week, I thought I'd share ju... Read More »

With two children under 3 and a husband in the house, I do a lot of laundry. I probably wash at least one load a day, which means at any given time, our daughter's crib is a reservoir for clean laundry. As you can imagine, all of that laundry consumes a lot of water, soap, and... Read More »

I have no idea how the amount of laundry exponentially increased with baby number 2, but I find myself doing laundry almost every day. The physical act of throwing the laundry in the washer and dryer is not the difficult part. It's the sorting, stain removal, folding, and putting away that takes way too much time.
About a week ago, I returned from a trip to Ari... Read More »

Posting has been super light this week because I've been in Arizona with Bosch learning all about how to organize and effectively do my laundry. But I've come away with some great tips that I'll be sharing with you soon! One of the things I learned was that the way we do laundry, isn't a. the most effective and b. the most environmentally friendly. We have a top... Read More »

Between my active toddler, who manages to get dirt and juice and food all over his clothes, to my baby who is constantly spitting up, the laundry is getting a bit overwhelming. If I can just get it done and put away I'm happy. Forget about trying to get the stains out when they happen. I'd love to preserve some of my son's cute shirts and my daughter's adorabl... Sometimes I'll try "green" products and find them to be less effective than their counterparts. But there are a few staples we use in our household that I trust to do what they say they're going to do. Green Works is one such brand. We've actually been using the prod... Read More »
