Innovative Solutions: The Veggie-Peel (Plus a Giveaway!)
October 10, 2008
*Update*
This giveaway is now closed. Thank you so much for stopping by. The winner is Noreen (it’s not often that random.org picks the first comment!). Congratulations!
It’s another day in the Bailey household and the redundant question of the day is “What’s for dinner?” My husband is the savvy one and I often skirt cooking duty in exchange for clean-up! My husband is probably the messiest cook I’ve ever known but I can’t complain because his meals are soooo yummy. I think I’d probably be inclined to spend more time in the kitchen if I had products that made cooking and clean-up easier like The Veggie-Peel.
I have to thank Nicole over at Apron Strings Aflutter for introducing me to this fabulously ingenious product. Gone are the days of clogged kitchen sink drains and flying cucumber peels. The Veggie-Peel is a simple, savvy, safe solution for meal prep. It features a double-sided blade, which makes it user-friendly for anyone, regardless of which hand they prefer to use. The fruit and vegetable peelings empty into an acrylic chamber which has a removable cap. Clean-up is literally the time it takes to open the chamber and empty the peelings into the trash. The Veggie-Peel is simple to clean and dishwasher safe.

Green Me: Spot Shot Carpet Stain & Odor Eliminator
October 4, 2008
I’m convinced that carpet and children should not co-exist in the same space! I guess I should say that having a CLEAN carpet seems like a distant memory I vaguely recall years ago before pureed peas and Cheerios. Our little boy is learning how to feed himself. What a messy endeavor that is! Our dining room is carpeted (whose bright idea was that anyway?) which means I’m on my hands and knees like Cinderella after every meal. Most days I use water in vain to try and remove the crumbs and food that my son has thrown on the floor.
Did you know that according to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) the main ingredients in most carpet cleaning solutions are perchloroethylene (used in dry cleaning) and naphthalene. The fumes released can cause dizziness, fatigue, loss of appetite, disorientation, nausea, kidney and liver damage. Naphthalene is neurotoxic and a possible human carcinogen (EPA). Be sure to read labels carefully before purchasing any household cleaning agent.
Thanks to Mom Central, we were able to test out WD40′s new eco-friendly, non-toxic carpet stain and odor eliminator called Spot Shot. I have almost completely resorted to “green” household cleaners for three reasons:
1. Our precious environment will not continue to hold up against damage from toxic chemicals
2. My little boy is growing and developing and at risk for suffering permanent effects from chemicals and substances abundant in our world today
3. Chronic diseases like cancer have been linked to environmental sources and I want to do everything I can to lower the risk for myself and my family
I have to admit that Spot Shot had me at non-toxic and biodegradable. Spot Shot has been approved by the Carpet and Rug Institute for product performance and is effective in removing tough stains and odors and prevents them from returning via it’s anti-resoiling agents. It also contains dual-odor eliminators to absorb and neutralize odors and has a pleasant smell!
Spot Shot is safe for you, your children, your pets and the environment. It is free from VOCs, phosphates or other harmful chemicals and is biodegradable. So does it work? Check out my video review:

Spot Shot is available at for purchase at retailers nationwide. If you have pets, be sure to check out Spot Shot Pet for all of those “other” bodily fluids. The site has a wealth of information including a MSDS (material safety data sheet) on the product and a stain search engine.
