We're knee-deep in the school season and as expected, many families are working through new schedules, after school activities, and homework. But some families, have their thoughts and efforts focused on a different issue...an issue many of us probably don't think about.

My oldest started pre-k last week and we're fortunate that he has been able to attend a private school. But next year, he'll likely go to a public school as we're currently evaluating all of our options. With the economy in turmoil, many public schools are finding that they're lacking even the basics when it comes to supplies. I've heard many parents talk about ... Read More »

When I was a single, 20-something year old, you'd often find me at the mall...or the outlets...shopping for the latest in fashion trends. While I wasn't extravagant, it wasn't uncommon for me to purchase an outfit or two every month. I can't honestly remember the last time I took a dedicated shopping trip just for myself. Sure, I've purchased items here or there whe... Read More »

Pre-K...I can't believe my son started Pre-K this week. While it's definitely going to be an adjustment for all of us, our hope is that this year will ready our son for the discipline of Kindergarten. While there is no homework (yet), we are striving to establish a schedule and work on being on time. We're working on things like learning to write and sitting still... Read More »

I enjoy shopping for my children, even more than I enjoy shopping for myself. My son is now at this adorable age where he'll actually pick things out to wear, some of which go well together.

It seems like just a few months ago, I was cleaning out both of my children's drawers, bagging those outfits that no longer fit them to donate to our local Salvation Army. Today I put a shirt on my son that I had just bought not too long ago, only to find that either it shrunk in the wash, or he's outgrown it.
With back to school season here, we're sorting throug... Read More »

I love when my daughter runs up to me with a piece of paper in her hand, motioning for me to get her the box of crayons stored on our bookshelf. Both of my children enjoy coloring, but my husband and I agree that our daughter is the artistic, creative one. We wouldn't be surprised if she took it up as a hobby as she gets older because she colors much more than my ... Read More »

With the school-year on the horizon, it's time for parents and children to begin thinking about preparing lunches. For children who are not able to tolerate gluten, the task of finding healthful, palatable options in local grocery stores can be challenging for parents.
Several years ago, when my son was diagnose... Read More »

A couple of weeks ago, I was helping my son get dressed and noticed one of his shirts was short. I've never been perfect with the laundry, but I was pretty certain I hadn't shrunk anything, particularly because this was a new shirt. Later that week, his teacher commented that she thought he had a growth spurt. Children grow so quickly!

In just one year, our lives will be very different. Our son will be entering kindergarten and we're already mentally preparing ourselves for the change. There will be early mornings, tighter schedules, homework (it starts early these days), and expenses. But our hope is that once our little boy begins school, he'll love it which means we'll love it. We desire to mak... Read More »

It goes without saying that investing in a child's education reaps innumerable long-term rewards. However, with nationwide budget cuts, it seems like parents are having to purchase more items. When you combine that with necessary uniforms, shoes, or other apparel, the costs can add up.

My brilliant little preschooler happily wakes up, eats breakfast and gets dressed for school three times a week...ok...maybe that's only somewhat true. But my son really does enjoy going to school. I can't imagine a time in the future where my son would "ditch" school.
