Every year, my children receive at least one Easter basket and likely two or three. The baskets vary and might be plastic and already filled or wood/wicker filled with items that have been hand-selected. The problem with receiving even one basket a year is that they add up...and then retire to their storage place never to be looked at again.
This year I endeavore... Read More »

You might have noticed that Rockin' Mama is getting a bit crafty! I'm definitely more analytical by nature, but lately I've been tapping into my creative side, mostly because of my kids. If I had an abundance of time, I'd take a variety of classes to continue exploring my passions for food, photography, and travel.

One week it's music classes...the next ballet. One child knows exactly what they want to be when they grow up...the other is exploring a variety of interests. You want to help your child discover their unique talents...to be their biggest fan...their most loyal supporter. You also want them to take pride in their talents and accomplishments...to own them. So ... Read More »

I can't wait for summer! Have I mentioned that lately? While I love to bake and my kids enjoy getting crafty, we long to be outside running, jumping, exploring, swimming...did I mention swimming?
This year, my son will finally be able to swim, so we're gearing up to prepare for warm sunny days in the pool and at the beach. After cleaning out my son's drawers, I... Read More »

I like real food...the kind that grows on trees or comes from the ground or even comes from animals (sometimes). I'm also a foodie, so I like my food interesting...creative...ethnic. Sometimes the two mesh. For most moms like myself, creating diverse, flavorful, nutritious meals on a consistent basis is a challenge. I personally have limited time and a child w... Read More »

Nothing great in the world has ever been accomplished without passion.
Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel
What are you passionate about? What drives you?
I often ask myself those questions with regards to my relationships....my career....my pursuits. They are what drive my decisions and actions. I love that quote by Hegel because without passion...drive...motivation... Read More »

With Easter approximately one week away, we're starting to think about how we'll celebrate the holiday. Traditionally, we've attended church and then enjoyed brunch out as a family. Dining at any restaurant on Easter Sunday can be quite expensive (and a little hectic with two small children), if you can manage to get a reservation. To save money and our sanity, ... Read More »

After experiencing one of the wettest storms of the year this past weekend, it's finally beginning to feel like Spring! My mom helped me go through my children's clothes to pull out those items that no longer fit, and we took inventory of what they might need for the warmer weather and upcoming season. Since my children have outgrown a lot of their Spring and Summ... Read More »

I remember the first time my daughter started dancing...It was during her first year of life and we were watching a music-focused show. My father used to tell my mother and I how much he loved when my daughter danced. I think he found it incredible that even as a baby, she could sense rhythm.
I don't often talk about it, but when I was in my teens and twenties, I... Read More »

Most days, I am content if I've had a moment to wash and moisturize my face before going to bed, so you can assume that my skin care regimen is at best simple. Last week I gave you an inside look at my personal beauty regime, complete with the products I use, the areas I focus on, and the short cuts I take when I'm running out of time. Like my beauty regime, my sk... Read More »

What happens in a film is nothing short of magic. Regardless of the genre, a movie has a way of transporting an audience to another place and time...real or imagined.

A winter storm and a child under the weather...what's a mom to do? After a batch of gluten-free, vegan chocolate chip cookies, a stack of books, and a little bit of Dora, we decided to get our craft on. I really shouldn't complain, since other parts of the country experience a lot worse with regards to weather, and I'm in awe of how those moms keep their children ... Read More »

What do you get a one-year old for his or her birthday? I've often struggled with that question, simply because during that second year of life, the transition from infancy to toddlerhood is profound. Developmentally, a 15 month old is much different than a 21 month old.
Last week, I introduced you to Bel Bambini, a specialty boutique featuring chic, designer m... Read More »

Travel has this way of opening up your eyes to see the world from a broader perspective. Some of my greatest memories were created while traveling with friends, family, and my husband.
It was the summer of 2006 and my husband and I were in the midst of an 8 week long backpacking adventure through Europe. We did things we never imagined we'd do, like sleeping in... Read More »

For the last year or so, both of my children have suffered from chronic ear infections. When you factor in my son's allergies and my daughter's slow weight gain during her first year or so of life, the result is that both of my children have been to the doctor a lot.
