DIY Coffee Lover’s Gift Basket For Under $30 Published on Friday, December 2, 2011 by

This giveaway is now closed. Thanks for stopping by. The winner is Katie. Congrats!

When I’m looking to be creative or simply gift something personal for a friend or family member, I’ll often put together a themed basket.  Baskets can simplify gift-giving, since the theme of the basket determines what types of items will be included.  My husband is a definite coffee-holic,  so I decided I’d put together a Coffee Lover’s Basket as one of his gifts this year.

I like to  keep interesting baskets for future re-gifting, which saves me a bit of money while imposing less of an environmental impact.  Since I had a spa basket, I decided to reuse it for my husband’s gift.  If I did not have a basket, I’d probably select the items first which would guide the size and shape of basket I would need for the gift.  When deciding which items to include, I set the price at $30 or under.

After perusing our local grocery store, I decided that chocolate and coffee would predominate.  Since I’ve been eying Peet’s new Holiday Blend for several weeks now, I picked up a bag as part of my husband’s gift.  The full-bodied blend includes hints of bittersweet chocolate, a floral aroma and a smooth creamy finish.  It sounds delish!  The coffee is actually ground, so I picked up some filters which will make it easy for my husband to brew as soon as he opens the gift.  In that same section, I perused the hot chocolate offerings and decided on a Ghirardelli Hot Cocoa that I think will taste really good if placed in a fresh cup of Peet’s coffee with a splash of milk and a dollop of whipped cream.

Next, I headed to the clearance section, since I suspected the store might have marked down some items from Thanksgiving.  Interestingly enough, I found 2 small boxes of cookies to include.  I then headed to the holiday section for Peppermint Bark which completed my shopping venture.

Once I put everything together at home, I still felt like something was missing.  I have a travel mug that was gifted to me that’s never been used and decided that would finish the gift off.  The only thing left to do was include some crinkled paper (recycled, if available) and a card. The entire gift came in at just under $30 which makes it affordable without sacrificing quality.

You can view my entire shopping venture here.

Win It! One of you will win a $75 Peet’s Gift. Simply leave me a comment with another gift idea you’d create with one of Peet’s coffees.  Be sure to include the type of coffee you’d include in the gifts. Comments will close on December 17th at 11:59 PM PST.

Very good idea! I like the contents of your basket.
I’d start off with a dark French roast coffee. I’d include a cute coffee scoop and ceramic mug, as well as some almond roast. I’d also include a book, because coffee and reading just go together.

For someone new to coffee I would get several samples ranging from a light roast to a dark and even possibly some flavors. Specialty sugar and or spoons can be a good addition. For some, they drink coffee during relaxing time – if those people also like puzzles and such a book of same might be nice or a book of some other sort or even a magazine or two on their favorite subject. I like to create an ‘experience’ package more than just a themed one.
