Eureka’s New AirSpeed ABS Vacuum *Giveaway* Published on Monday, October 10, 2011 by

One month ago, I was walking around Sam’s Club with my mother-in-law and was quite shocked to find holiday items already in stock.  With Halloween just a couple of weeks away, the holidays will be here shortly.  While I really enjoy this time of year, there are inherent stresses that come with entertaining and hosting friends and family members.

If I could pick two seasons where cleaning is the most emphasized, it would be Spring and Fall.  During the summer, we tend to get lax about the house, but once the Fall season is upon us, it’s back to regular schedules and routines (which of course includes cleaning).

Eureka, which I recently learned is part of the Electrolux brand, just introduced their new Airspeed ABS vacuum in September, perfectly timed for the holiday season. This upright bagged vacuum cleaner, which utilizes AirSpeed technology, is actually 1/3 the cost of comparable vacuums currently on the market. I won’t delve into the scientific specifics of how the vacuum is able to clean carpets so effectively, but I encourage you to read a bit about the technology on their website if you’re curious.  To start, here is a quick video I created to show off some of the features of the new vacuum:

 

As I mentioned in the video, probably 50% of the flooring in our home is either laminate or tile.  Thus, the ability to clean both types of flooring effectively is an important consideration for our family.  Also important is the weight of the vacuum and how transportable it is. While we do what we can to eliminate dust, dirt, and allergens upstairs (which is wear our carpeted floors reside), I am still forced to transport our vacuum up and down those stairs for weekly cleaning. Thus, the fact that this vacuum weighs in at 18.5 pounds makes it relatively easy on my back. Lastly, because my husband and son suffer from seasonal allergies, any vacuum I use in our home must contain a HEPA filter.  I have to be honest that learning the vacuum uses a bagged system was a bit daunting and I had concerns about dust and allergens polluting our household air during bag changes.  I was pleased to learn that through the Clean-Lock bag change system, the dirt, dust and debris captured by the vacuum is contained within the bag, which is discarded when full. Additionally, the AirSpeed ABS vacuum utilizes Arm & Hammer vacuum bags which inherently retain all dust mites, debris, grass and ragweed pollens.

A very long time ago, before vacuums included attachments and hoses, I owned a hand-held vacuum to clean those hard-to-reach spots.  These days, most vacuums come with both attachments and hoses to enhance cleaning versatility.  Since I am the one who’s always losing the attachments, I appreciate the fact that the AirSpeed ABS vacuum was forward thinking in their design and included a spot to house those attachments (now it’s up to me to store them right there on the vacuum!).  My favorite attachment, apart from the hose which is fantastic for reaching corners and under the refrigerator (and it extends 12 feet), is the stair and upholstery brush.  It sits on the front of the vacuum and is perfect for cleaning stairs, which in my opinion can be a chore.

Apart from it’s ability to clean both flooring and carpet, the AirSpeed vacuum has some unique features I’ve not seen before.  First, there is an indicator light on the front of the vacuum which will let you know when the bag is full and must be changed.  Second, the vacuum contains an airflow control switch on the side which diverts power either towards the floor or towards the attachments, to ensure you’re getting effective suction and power.

A comparable vacuum could cost upwards of $400-$500.  Eureka’s AirSpeed ABS vacuum, sold exclusively at Walmart, retails for $129.98.

    One of my favorite features would be the 12 foot hose, my current sweeper has a very short hose making the attachments pretty much worthless, sad to say!

    I’d have to say the 12 foot hose is the best feature! That way I can vacuum my entire stair case without having to do half at the bottom, then drag the vacuum up to do the top half from the top!
