Saturday mornings are the traditional breakfast days in our home.  My husband will make waffles or I’ll bake vegan muffins from scratch.  And once a month (ish), we’ll frequent my favorite breakfast location…Mimi’s Cafe.  I love the Pain Perdu breakfast or their premium 3-egg omelets. But the French-inspired casual dining restaurant isn’t only famous for their amazing breakfast menu. When we lived in LA, a group of us would meet for lunch at the establishment, conversing over their fresh baked breads and gourmet salads.

On July 14th, Mimi’s Cafe will celebrate Bastille Day! To celebrate, Mimi’s Cafe will debut French-inspired menus including a new Chocolate Mouse Muffin, and offer guests a chance to win a trip to Provence.

I visited one of their Orange County locations last week to experience their new French-inspired menus, specifically The Tour de Provence which is the first destination on Mimi’s Taste of France culinary journey.  Along with offering a new Cinnamon Brioche French Toast (YUM!), the cafe will offer seasonal prix fixe menus for lunch ($10.99 for two courses plus a drink) and dinner ($13.99 for three courses).

Because I haven’t experienced dinner at Mimi’s, I decided to visit with my kids. I ordered the Roasted Tomato & Basil Bisque (one of my favorite soups), Provencal Glazed Shrimp & Asparagus Ravioli, and the Fresh Apple Cinnamon Crisp.  I particularly enjoyed the ravioli, which combines grilled shrimp with a tomato basil glaze on top of asparagus ravioli and tomato cream sauce, Romano cheese, spinach, diced tomatoes and basil.  It was rich (but not too heavy) and full of flavor.  For a price fixe menu, the portions were sufficient and I walked away satisfied but not overly stuffed.

The inspiration behind the Tour de Provence menus lies in the fresh garden herbs and vegetables characteristic of the region.  The meals are simple, elegant and boast the flavors of this region.  This particular menu will be available through October 5th.  Tour de Paris will launch on October 6th followed by Tour de Burgundy.

On Bastille Day, be sure to print off the coupon for a free two-pack of Mimi’s muffins with any purchase while supplies last (this includes the Chocolate Mousse Muffin).  The coupon is available online or on Mimi’s Facebook page.

Through August 15th, guests can also “like” Mimi’s on Facebook to participate in a Chance for France.  The grand prize is a five-day, four-night trip for two to Provence including air transportation and accommodations.  Five winners will receive a one-year supply of muffins and 96 winners will receive a $25 gift card to Mimi’s Cafe.
