We’re in the midst of summer and over here in Southern California it’s been hot! Apart from simply dressing in lighter colors and less clothing (as in skirts and sundresses), I hadn’t really thought much about wearing clothing specifically designed to keep me cool.

For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been wearing several pieces from Jockey’s new Staycool collection. The line, which was developed for astronauts (how “cool” is that?) features  Outlast temperature regulating technology to keep your skin feeling up to 3 degrees cooler.  So how does it work?

Outlast technology uses certain materials that “absorb, store, and release excess heat to maintain an optimal external body temperature.”  This treatment is actually printed onto the fabric to help the clothing within the line keep you cool and comfortable.

No one likes to sweat. The fact that outer and undergarments exist to help men and women feel cooler is innovative and cutting-edge.  My initial reaction upon seeing the items was that they looked like something I’d want to wear. The Reversible T-Shirt is perfect for matching with jeans and can be worn as a crew neck or a v-neck (I prefer the former).  The cotton/spandex blend fabric is soft and breathable and the shirt itself is fitted and flattering.   The Reversible Tank is very similar to the Reversible T-Shirt but I do prefer the fit of the T over the tank.  I like the versatility of both shirts and the range of colors they come in.  You can layer or coordinate the shirts with other pieces or wear them as is.  Despite the fact that the Reversible T-Shirt I received was black, I never felt hot or sweaty while wearing it (and it’s been HOT here in Southern California).  After wearing both shirts, I examined them for odor and sweat stains….and found neither.

I don’t typically wear briefs but I tried both the Modern Briefs and the Bikini to determine how effective they were at keeping me cool. The fabrics are soft and breathable and the smoothed edges mean I don’t have visible lines.  Despite the fact that I wish Jockey offered a few more styles of underwear, you will find that both the Modern Brief and the Bikini are offered in a variety of colors.

Jockey’s new Staycool line offers functional underwear and fashionable layering pieces to keep you looking and staying cool.  I’d love to see the collection expand to include activewear and shapewear!  The Staycool line is moderately priced and available online and at retailers nationwide.
