June flew by, and with it went the temperate weather that we always get here in Southern California. June Gloom is gone and in it's place are temperatures well into the 80s and 90s. During the spring and fall months, we rarely use air conditioning. We simply open windows if it's warm and ensure that the blinds are closed during the time when the sun's heat is at... Read More »

So much of what I remember from my childhood was associated with experiences. My mom used our weekend day trips to the beach to teach me about sea life and our vacations to expose me to art and history. Because I'm a hands-on learner, I've strived to provide my children with the same type of experiential learning. My son, who just turned four, is an active, inqu... Read More »

My favorite types of films are those that depict a compelling story filled with humor and heart. On July 1st, I'm grabbing a girlfriend to see Monte Carlo, which stars Selena Gomez from the Wizards of Waverly Place as an ordinary girl who becomes an accidental princess dur... Read More »

Whenever I watch an animated film, I'm awestruck by the visual aesthetics, knowing, in part, how much time, effort, and creativity are involved. After watching Cars 2 for the third time over the weekend, I still came away from the film amazed at it's bea... Read More »

I wear my children for two reasons...attachment and convenience. In those sweet, blissful newborn days, babies need to be next to their mamas. The gentle sway, warmth, and sounds of her heartbeat mimic that what is experienced in utero. And, if I'm being honest, it's much more convenient to have a baby secured to me while I'm running after my preschooler.

For some reason, some of the most memorable moments with my kids involve food...and messes! I remember the first time we introduced my son to S'mores. My dark haired little boy was a dark chocolate mess. But the smile on his face was something I'll always remember. He w... Read More »

"Driving shouldn't be a secondary task...it should be the only task."
You may not realize it, but there is quite a bit of research behind each of my posts. Every post you see on this site was specifically selected from hundreds of other topics and ideas that could have appeared in it's place. I am very purposeful about the content that does and does not appear, s... Read More »

I have a drawer where I keep those clothes that are permanently stained. It's my go-to drawer for those days where my son will be painting or otherwise getting messy. I've learned to accept stains as this proof that I have children (or something). But that doesn't mean I'... Read More »

I can't remember the exact moment when my son would sit through a movie in a theater without squirming, crying or making a mad dash for the exit, but somewhere between 2 1/2 and 3, I felt comfortable venturing out. There is something exciting about a morning, afternoon, or early evening out at the movies. My son, in particular, enjoys the experience, particularly if... Read More »

Have you heard? The Muppets are coming back to the big screen after an 11 year hiatus. With a brand new Muppet, Jason Segel, and Amy Adams joining the troupe, the film is certain to be enjoyable.
The Muppets isn't slated to be released until November 23rd, but earlier this year several of us had an opportunity to meet Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy over at one ... Read More »

They're 4 and 18 months...and they make messes like no other. I know it's their age, but I am constantly cleaning up juice and crumbs, wiping faces and floors, and scrubbing windows and walls. My son just turned four, and for the last few months, we've slowly been giving him small chores to complete to encourage responsibility.
I don't know a single child (part... Read More »

My wife may not admit it often, but I am an integral part of her site. Usually, I'm in the background, from shooting video and editing to coding and design. And that is about all I have time for, with my own very demanding job, forget starting my own blog! But occasionally, I go to events and write about something that she wouldn't otherwise have time to cover. So the... Read More »

My son just turned four, and apart from two dental screenings, he's yet to visit a dentist. I honestly wasn't sure when he was supposed to have his first dental visit (perhaps a question I should have asked at his last annual check-up), but from visual inspection of his teeth during our daily brushing, I knew a visit was needed soon.
Last week, we stopped by our ... Read More »

Did you know that the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood is the exclusive first run theatre for Walt Disney Pictures? The theatre, which is 85 years old, is host to live stage shows, world premieres and special events. Watching a movie inside the theatre is a unique experience and there is some interesting history surrounding it's development. There are three iconi... Read More »

Growing up, I always swayed towards the intellectual as opposed to the creative. I took practically every Advanced Placement class offered and shied away from art, ceramics, and theater. It wasn't until my 20's that I discovered my love for art (particularly Impressionism) and theater. And it wasn't until I started writing this blog that I discovered my love for... Read More »

When people ask me what my son with food allergies eats, I typically tell them he eats like a Vegan...a Vegan who eats meat! Before my son was diagnosed with food allergies, I knew very little about the subject. My knowledge was limited to children who experienced life-threatening, anaphylactic reactions to things like nuts.
Earlier this week, an article was re... Read More »
