This Sunday, football fans will converge with like-minded friends and family members to watch the 41st annual championship game of the NFL.  Those of you who know me IRL, know that I’m not a football fan.  However, there is a large part of my husband’s family who can’t get enough of the sport.  What I enjoy about Super Bowl Sunday is the opportunity to spend some time with friends and family.  Inevitably, this involves all kinds of food!

If you’re looking for a sweet treat to cool off with, Dreyer’s/Edy’s launched a new themed flavor just in time for the big game.  Touchdown Sundae, cleverly named to coincide with the day, is a creamy blend of rich fudge swirls, vanilla, and caramel filled chocolate footballs.  While I’m not typically a fan of caramel, it’s subtle enough to compliment the vanilla and chocolate without coming off as overly sweet.  I really enjoy Dreyer’s ice cream because it’s smooth and creamy.  I would, however, like to see this flavor offered in a “light” version since that is the ice cream we typically purchase.

Touchdown Sundae is a limited edition flavor, which means you’ll only be able to get it through February.  In some parts of the country, you’ll find the flavor under the name Dreyer’s (as it is in California) and in other parts of the country, you’ll find it under Edy’s (for reasons I’m unsure of ).  A 1.5 quart retails for $5.99 and you can search IceCream.com to find a retail location near you which carries the flavor.
