I am always a little intimidated when I try to make candy, particularly if the molds are highly detailed.  The process is actually quite easy.  Melt the candy, place them in the mold, allow them to set, and wrap them up.  But there is a bit of precision that is required, particularly if you want to get fancy or creative.

Wilton’s Valentine Candy Making Kit makes it easy to create adorable lollipops and candies that can be gifted.  As someone who is very much an amateur at baking and decorating, I hope that through these posts you can see how easy and achievable these projects are.  The kit comes with everything you need to make, decorate, and gift the candies including red, pink, white, and cocoa candy melts, 3 different themed molds, lollipop sticks, decorating bags, decorating brush and party bags with ties.

Once you’ve washed and dried the molds, you can start melting the candy.  My preferred method of candy melting is in the microwave with the disposable decorating bags provided.  It’s much easier to fill the molds precisely and makes for a quick and easy clean-up.  I microwave the bags on medium heat in 10 second intervals until the candy is melted, but not scorching, so I can still handle the bag.  About halfway through, knead the bags to combine the candies for melting.  It can take approximately 30-40 seconds to melt the candies.

Now you’re ready to start filling the molds.  If you’d like to add details or accents, now is the time to do so.  The kit includes a paintbrush that can be used to achieve this.  Be sure to allow the candies time to dry and set in between color changes so that they don’t run together.  I do this by placing the mold in the refrigerator for several minutes.  Repeat these steps until you have included all of the colors you desire in your candy molds, making sure to allow drying in between.  Don’t forget to include the lollipop stick when you’re filling the molds. One tip I’d suggest is to ensure you place the lollipop stick far enough into the candy so it will support it’s weight and won’t break off.

Once you’re completely done filling the molds, allow the candies to set in the refrigerator until they’ve hardened completely.  They should pop out easily when they’ve hardened.

The last step is to tie them in the party bags for gifting.  You could also use the self-sealing stickers Wilton offers (which I prefer).
