There was a time when I’d see a new movie in the theaters every week.  These days, I have to get my chick-flick fix on Netflix or Redbox while the kids are sleeping. While I enjoy a variety of film genres, romantic comedies are still my favorite.

 

Last week, Image Entertainment released Beauty & the Briefcase, a romantic comedy based on Daniella Brodsky’s popular book, Diary of a Working Girl.  The film stars Hilary Duff (as Lane Daniels) and Jaime Pressly (Cosmo’s editor Kate White) and follows the story of an aspiring journalist who’s dream about writing for Cosmopolitan magazine comes true when her pitch for an article is accepted as a potential cover story.  Her assignment?  Land a corporate job and date as many eligible co-workers as possible.  When her story gets intertwined with real life, Lane must decide between the man she truly loves and her dream career.

Beauty & the Briefcase is a lighthearted take on love in the business world and has been nominated for a 2011 People’s Choice Award.  The film while upbeat and funny, presents a thoughtful story about romantic love.  We, as women, have our “lists” of things we look for in a man.  I think I’d shudder if I re-read my college list of “must be tall, dark, and handsome.”  People don’t fit neatly in square boxes and that’s the message I came away with.  My initial reaction to Duff’s character was that she was a tad bit unbelievable, but I warmed up to Lane as the movie progressed.

Beauty & the Briefcase is currently available on DVD and Blu-ray.

    I like her in the Cinderella Story movie. She’s done a few others I like. I am TERRIBLE at remembering movie titles though. Lol. I am the same way about song titles.
