I try not to be the typical gift giver. I like to choose items that are personal, meaningful, and useful...gifts I'd like to receive. Valentine's Day is traditionally focused on romantic love, however, I spend as much time and effort choosing cards and gifts for my children as I ... Read More »

One day, in the not too distant future, I imagine my husband and son getting very excited about monster trucks racing, competing, and demolishing cars live in an arena. Advanced Auto Parts Monster Jam returns to Southern California and there are just two performances left... Read More »

Valentine's Day is one of those holidays that I wish was less commercialized and taken to heart a bit more. While I think that we should all aim to show the people in our life how much we love and appreciate them regularly, it's nice to have a love-focused day set aside each year... Read More »

Nothing went the way I expected...the way it happens to other people...or in the movies. It was harder than I thought...more painful than I imagined... It feels like an eternity since my son was born on that warm Southern California day. The specifics of his birth are alre... Read More »

As a Southern California native, I've frequented Hollywood more times than I can count. I lived in LA for most of my life and worked in Beverly Hills for many years, and as such, have experienced everything from celebrity encounters and shopping on Rodeo Drive to live performances at the Pantages and visits to many of the studios. Despite the fact that my time as ... Read More »

Last week, PBS Kids began airing brand new episodes of the Parents’ Choice Recommended TV series Dinosaur Train. Coincidentally, it timed out perfectly with dinosaur week at my son's preschool. Not only did he tell me all about the names of the dinosaurs he learned, he proceeded to roar around the house in his new Dinosaur Train Striped Footed Pajamas.

I don't have time to watch a lot of television. There is so much beauty to explore...new places to discover. I'm busy and I prefer it that way. But on those evenings when the kids have actually managed to go to sleep at a decent hour and I just want to relax and do nothing, I turn on Glee.
The show is really one of the best I've seen in a long time...and I'm ... Read More »

The new year is a time when I think about some of the things I'd like to change in my life. If you can believe it, I have not purchased many articles of clothing for myself since my first pregnancy. I told myself that I wanted to wait until I had shed the baby weight and celebrate with a few new outfits. Combine that with the fact that I work from home part-time, an... Read More »

Last fall, Walt Disney Pictures released Secretariat, which depicts the remarkable true story of a racehorse and his owner. Secretariat was not your typical racehorse. He was "the greatest racehorse of all time," setting records that have yet to be broken. The film is now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and movie download, complete with deleted scenes and director's ... Last week, I talked about how I approach weight loss and invited readers to share ideas on what has worked well. For Louise from MomStart, "it took a lot of work," which is something many women identify with. I really liked what she had to say about "focusing on the simple things" and "accepting that any movement is better than no movement." What struck me about... Read More »

One of my aspirations for 2011 is to decrease the amount of times I eat out weekly and to cook (along with my husband) a majority of our meals. It is easier to control the ingredients in home-cooked meals and more affordable than dining out. And while it's feasible that I could cook all 21 of our meals each week, it's not practical for our particular situation. ... Read More »

Last week, I told you about a pretty fabulous contest from Sears and Whirlpool. Through January 31st, they've teamed up to give away a Whirlpool Duet laundry pair and this is one super easy contest I would LOVE to enter. Both the washer and dryer are front-loading which means they are energy efficient, water conserving machines! This week, I thought I'd share ju... Read More »

After many months of designing and redesigning, my site is complete (well...almost!). There are definitely some kinks to iron out...like the fact that my email was down for most of the day (if you've emailed me at all today, I likely didn't get it. Would love to have you re-email me if possible). So please, if you can, bear with me as I put the finishing touches o... Read More »

Confession: I read about all of the adventures the #snowmamas take and long to be on the slopes. While my husband is much more adept than I am, skiing is a skill I'd love to develop further when my kids are a little older.

One my resolutions for 2011 is to cook most of our meals and limit the number of times we eat out. Not only is eating out expensive, it's very difficult to control the types of ingredients, the quality of the food, and the portion sizes offered at dining establishments.
My son observed both my husband and I cooking and baking in the kitchen from infancy. He... Read More »
