Hershey’s Cookie Exchange *Giveaway* Published on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 by

This giveaway is now closed. Thanks for stopping by.  The winner is Alicia. Congrats!

Friends and family members across the country are gathering together for dinners and holiday parties. It’s the season of baking, and sweets and treats are everywhere!  Each year, thousands of people apply to host a Hershey’s Cookie Exchange, where friends and family members get together to share a variety of cookies.  A cookie exchange is a great way to try new flavors and add to your recipe collection.  I’m actually planning to host one when I return home.

Even if you didn’t get an opportunity to officially host a Hershey’s Cookie Exchange, you can still glean inspiration for your own event.  The site is filled with tips and recipes for making your event a success.  Since blossoms are a long-time favorite, here is the recipe:

Peanut Butter Blossoms

  • 48  HERSHEY’S KISSES Brand Milk Chocolates
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup REESE’S Creamy Peanut Butter
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1  egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Granulated sugar

Directions
1. Heat oven to 375°F. Remove wrappers from chocolates.
2. Beat shortening and peanut butter in large bowl until well blended. Add 1/3 cup granulated sugar and brown sugar; beat until fluffy. Add egg, milk and vanilla; beat well. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt; gradually beat into peanut butter mixture.
3. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll in granulated sugar; place on ungreased cookie sheet.
4. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately press a chocolate into center of each cookie; cookie will crack around edges. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely. About 4 dozen cookies.

This week, I’m in Hershey, Pennsylvania to get an inside look at the workings of the company.  Along with getting an opportunity to experience some of the holiday festivities offered in Hershey, we will be participating in our very own cookie exchange.  If you’d like to join the conversation on Twitter, just follow the hashtag #Hershey.

Bake, share, and win with Hershey’s contest that will award one person and a friend $10,000 towards a kitchen makeover.  Just visit the site to enter.

To celebrate, Hershey as offered to give one of you a cookie exchange gift pack.

Win It! One of you will win the following:

Branded Hershey’s canister set
Hershey’s cookies holiday apron
3 bags of assorted Hershey’s baking chips
2 bags of Hershey’s Kisses Brand Milk Chocolates
1 canister of Hershey’s cocoa
Branded Hershey’s cookie timer
Set of Hershey’s recipe cards
2 Hershey’s baking boxes

Simply leave me a comment with a recipe you like from the site (other than the one I posted).  Comments will close in one week on December 15, 2010 at 11:59 PM PST.

I found this cookie recipe from the cookie exchange that I adore:
    MICE COOKIE:
    Maraschino Cherries with stems ON
    Hershey’s Kisses
    Chocolate Chips to melt
    Sliced Almonds
    Small tube of white frosting
    Directions
    1. Place cherries on layers of paper towels to dry. Do this a couple hours before making Mice!
    2. Unwrap all the Hershey Kisses, and pair UP Almond slices to make sets of matching “ears”. Get this ready before the rest.
    3. Melt Chocolate in double boiler until creamy (or microwave).
    4. Using a Large Cookie Sheet lined with Waxed paper to hold Dipped Cherries.
    5. Hold cherry by stem carefully and dip (cover) with melted chocolates. Cover all the cherry except the stem. Place cherry on it’s side on the waxed paper. Dip a dozen or so, then go back and Press Kiss to front to make Mouse “head”.
    6. After they dry a little, press a set of Almond Slices between Kiss and Chocolate covered cherry to make the Mouse Ears.
Let Cool then put a dot of frosting on kiss for Mouse Eyes.
NOTE – When the chocolate is freshly applied, it’s too liquid to hold the kiss/almonds in place, so let it harden a LITTLE!
