A Verry Merry Christmas To You! Published on Saturday, December 25, 2010 by

After just five short hours of sleep, all four of us woke up so I could spend a few minutes with my family before heading off to work.  Nursing is a 24 hour, seven day a week job, even on holidays.  And while I would much rather have spent the day snuggled up on the couch with my two kidlets, I imagine that those families in the NICU would have rather spent the day snuggling their babies at home too.  Perspective.

Despite the long, twelve hour day, we had an incredibly, ethnic dinner lovingly made by my husband. Who says empanadas, chicken tamales, and wild rice aren’t festive?

How did you spend Christmas Day?

You are right! It’s all in how you look at it! I’m glad you still were able to spend some time with your family while helping so many others in the NICU! I spent Christmas day with my family and my best friend and her family. We got snow, but it was a day late.

Hi Nancy! I so wish we had snow. My son keeps saying that it’s not Christmas until it snows! : ) So cute……Happy New Year to you!

We went to the Sacramento Children’s Receiving Home for Christmas and handed out gifts, especially to the workers, who gave up their holidays to make sure that the kids (mostly teens who have been discarded, but some little kids who ran to my husband dressed as Santa and our kids dressed as reindeer). Perspective definitely made me hold my kids tighter and tell them I love them more often that day.

Thank you for what you do, too. I’m sure you make everyone’s life better.

How wonderful of you to be so thoughtful. I’m glad you got to see the kids before you went to work and then got to have a delicious dinner with your family.
Wishing you a joyous holiday season!

Lorie….given the circumstances, it was a wonderful day. I so wish I could have stayed snuggling with my kids. But alas, the hospital is always open……I can’t wait to meet you in March!!!
