Whenever I go to a fast food restaurant, I order either a chicken sandwich or a salad. Now, not all fast food restaurants are alike…I have my favorites and Wendy’s tops the list. I remember how sad my mom and I were when the location on the pier in Redondo Beach closed.
Earlier this week, I joined some local Los Angeles and Orange County bloggers for a sampling of their new Pick 2 Menu. For just $4.99, you can pair one of four premium half-sized salads with one of seven food or beverage options. I chose their Apple Pecan Chicken Salad with a bottle of water, but ended up getting a much needed Frosty fix for dessert. If you’re hungry, select from one of four food items including a Baked Potato, Chicken Go Wrap, Junior Bacon Cheeseburger or Small Chili. I like the fact that you can choose from a beverage or a Frosty as well. The price is quite reasonable at $4.99 and there are a lot of ways to make the meal healthy.
I eat a salad for lunch several times a week, and I found the serving size to be adequate. Their Apple Pecan Chicken Salad is hearty and includes red and green apples, blue cheese crumbles (which I could have done without), sweet cranberries, roasted pecans, and warm grilled chicken. I’d like to go back and try their Baja Salad which includes fresh pico de gallo, guacamole and Wendy’s original chili, all topped with a red jalapeno dressing.
With the number of combinations available, there really is something for everyone at an affordable price. There are twenty-eight possible combinations, eighteen of which are under 600 calories.
