It's hard to believe that August is here. Our typical desert-like weather has been mild and temperate...cool even. But I know that August is always the hottest month of the year. To cool off, we'll head over to our community pool, run through the sprinklers an... Read More »

In less than a week, we'll be on a plane to New York City! With family in tow, we'll ascend the Empire State Building and hit Broadway (amongst many other things). As I write this post, I am thinking about all of the things we need to pack for two little ones. Fortunately, a portable crib is not one of them. Since my daughter co-sleeps and my son is long out o... Read More »

I don't get enough facials...or massages...or pedicures...or baths. As a working mom, I tend to go, go, go in an effort to take care of everyone but myself.
About a week ago, I had the perfect excuse to take a nice long bath. I received a lovely set of eco-friendly bath pro... Read More »

It's funny how much I've learned this time around as a mother to two. Before my son was born, I bought way too many toys, books, clothes, and shoes. There was so much that he didn't use or wear. Fortunately, our family, friends, neighbors, and local charities have benefited ... Read More »

One of the few TV shows that I'm ok with my son watching is Sid the Science Kid. The animated PBS kid's series was created for children ages 3-6 and stars Sid, an inquisitive preschooler who "wants to know why things happen and how." The show was developed to inspire curiosity and a love for learning and encourage children to figure things out. If your child w... Read More »

My 3 year old son spends most of his playtime talking to his toys. Pretend play is how my son builds his social, emotional, thinking and language skills. It's also how he expresses and uses his imagination. I'm a big proponent of open-ended educational toys that encourage imaginative play. Pop On Pals is a "new world of 'Popabilities' from Spin Master," who's p... Read More »

When I was a child, my dad and I put together a lot of puzzles. We even glued some of the best ones together and framed them. I like age-appropriate puzzles because they stretch children and encourage them to think abstractly. They require that children look beyond the individual pieces to the "bigger picture."
Crayola's new Chalkboard Floor Puzzles "inspire ... Read More »

My last memory of the county fair was during my childhood. I don't remember specifics... But I do remember that the three of us were there together as a family...my dad and I going on rides...my mom and I browsing the vendors...the three of us eating snow cones and popcorn.
In many ways, the fair has changed tremendously...and it many ways it's exactly as I rem... Read More »

Earlier this month, I had an opportunity to check out Dermalogica's skin care line. I've been using their products for almost a month, and I am impressed with how my skin looks and feels. The company recently debuted their new UltraCalming line designed to provide relief for sensitized skin. My initial question was, what is "sensitized" skin? I have sensitive ... Read More »

If you've got a desktop (or thumb drive) full of photos (like I do) that have never been printed, you might want to consider checking out Snappy's Summer Roadtrip. Snapfish, the number one online photo service, is offering some amazing deals this summer. I can't remember the last time I went to see a "grown-up" movie. The few times when both my husband and I are off AND have child care, we typically just sleep relax. Last week, I found a website that provides information on advanced movie screenings. Since there isn't much in this world that's truly free, I was a bit skeptical. I had been wanting to see the ... My son is finally at an age where he enjoys amusement parks. So much so, that we already have season passes to TWO Southern California parks. Last week we took my son to Knott's Berry Farm for the very first time. It's been a LONG time since I've been to the park (at least 10 years...if not more). Did you know that they now have a water park? Three of them to ... Read More »

My life is busy. With two children, a part-time job, and a household, it's easy to get preoccupied with the busyness of life. But there just isn't enough goodness in the world. I realized that two weeks ago when a few of us spent a day paying it forward.

With summer in full swing, many of you may be hosting barbecues, picnics, and parties. This week, Chef Scott Leibfried shows us a twist on a traditional favorite...Tuna Potato Salad. This dish is a good source of Omega3's and Protein, and low in calories and fat. I really like that spices, herbs, mustard and vinegar take the place of mayonnaise.

You know the story...A girl named Alice chases a rabbit into a hole during a dream and finds herself amongst a disappearing cat, an army of cards, and an elusive white rabbit in Wonderland. Fast forward several years to an Alice who's all grown up, about to get engaged to a man she's lukewarm about. She's trapped in a pretentious society of do's and don'ts, attempti... Read More »

When my husband and I moved into our home, we had a lot of work to do. It was a foreclosure and had not been occupied for a long time. While it definitely could have been much worse, we did have to do a deep clean, paint it from top to bottom, and install new carpet on the second level. I really liked the laminate flooring downstairs (which was still in grea... Read More »

I practice unconventional parenting. I co-sleep, wear my baby, breastfeed until we (not I) decide to stop, and discipline with love (not my hand). Apparently, I need a support group, because my style of parenting is among Discovery Health's Top Ten List of Radical Parenting Methods (did you hear me sigh?!?).
