I don't remember when I started buying toys for my son. I'm certain my baby shower resulted in books, stuffed animals, and other eye candy for babies. Play is vital for learning and development in children, and choosing the appropriate toys can be challenging.
Sassy, a company dedicated to offering developmental toys for babies, works with child development exper... Read More »

Last year my husband and I got into Disneyland free on our birthdays. This year Disney had to change it up a bit. Disney wants to inspire people to volunteer one day of service to a participating organization in their communities. To celebrate and recognize those efforts, volunteers will receive a 1-day, 1-theme park ticket to Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney Wo... Read More »

My baby girl and I are hanging out, checking email, blogging, watching the news, and nursing. It's been our groove lately, once our toddler goes to sleep. Apart from growing a person (in other words, pregnancy), nursing is the deepest bond I'll have with my child. It's a natural extension of what my body did to sustain her in utero. For the next year (or more)... Read More »

The last few weeks have been a blur. Having a new baby can really throw a mama off schedule. And I have to admit that my son has been watching a bit more television than normal as we adjust to our new normal. Playhouse Disney is his favorite channel and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Little Einsteins are regulars around here. So I was a bit surprised when my son s... Read More »

In just a few short weeks, Rockin' Mama is going to have a brand new look! I'm so excited about 2010 and I hope you'll join me again for another great year. Here's a little summary of what I'm doing in 2010:
I've just signed on to be a Buzzmama...which basically means I get to tell you all about Mabel's Labels, a company I've been working with for a long time n... Read More »

This post has been updated with answers to the questions I posed and a giveaway.
I have to admit that I'm not particularly looking forward to packing my son's lunches when he goes to preschool. It's hard enough to think of things to feed him here at home (with his food allergies). But that is the very reason I wil... Read More »

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
I was one of them...a girl scout. I wore the green uniform, proudly displaying my patches and selling Thin Mints to my mom's friends. Girl Scouts is a positive organization that helps girls build character and life skills. I am so proud to say that I was a part of... Read More »

Several months ago, I wrote an article about flu shots. I was pregnant at the time and very undecided, especially considering the fact that the H1N1 vaccine is brand new, and the disease is very much a threat. After much research and discussion with my Obstetrician at the time, I decided to get both the seasonal and H1N1 vaccinations. I spread the vaccinations ... Read More »

I looked at the clock this morning and almost an hour had gone by. I watched you look around the room and into my eyes...mostly you just slept. I prayed for you and dreamed about all of the things we'll do together. This overwhelming need to protect you overcame me. Only another mother would understand that instinct which is so strong.
I started thinking abou... Read More »

Organization is the process of eliminating the excess and finding a place for everything...Stacey Crew
If you ask my husband on any given day what he would really like from me...it's to be organized. I have always struggled with organization, and having children has only complicated this. I am not one to make New Year's resolutions, but organization is something ... Read More »

I have to admit that when I look at pictures from my pre-pregnancy years, I get a little nostalgic for the days when I didn't have to worry about bodyshapers. People used to tell me that having a baby changes a woman's body...but I really had no idea until after my son was born that I may never have a flat tummy again.
It's been 3 weeks si... Read More »

I'm sitting here on my bed as my 3 week old baby girl nurses and my toddler winds down for bed. My son breastfed for almost 15 months, and my goal is to at least nurse my daughter for 12 months. I want to start this post by stating that in almost every situation, I prefer breast milk over formula. It's not that I'm opposed to formula. Both of my children have had ... Read More »

When our baby girl was born (3 weeks ago!), my husband had an opportunity to help with her first bath. The nurses naturally wanted to do it right away (apparently to "disinfect" the baby!). Since we did not go to the hospital that day thinking we would be greeting her, we did not have a bag... Read More »

Babies spit up. It's a given. My son spit up until he was over 6 months of age and my daughter seems to be following suit. Apart from the fact that it's messy and time consuming, it doesn't seem to bother her, so we (including our Pediatrician) aren't concerned. I never know when I'm going to have to change her (I don't like her wet), so I have a plentiful sup... Read More »

I fully admit that I'm not the most creative gal on the block. I tend to think I'm left-brain dominant, which explains my inability to draw pictures of Dora or Thomas for my son.

We just barely took our Christmas tree down and now I'm talking about Valentine's Day! I am a hopeless romantic who adores chocolate, roses, and jewlery. My husband does so much to let me know daily that he loves me, but every once and a while, it's nice to get an actual gi... Read More »
