Harlem Globetrotters “Magical Memories” Tour *Giveaway*

This giveaway is now closed. Thanks for stopping by.  The winner is Nancy S. Congrats!

I feel very fortunate that I married a man who is not consumed with sports.  We don’t have to be home on Sundays during football season or enslaved to the TV or radio during baseball season.  On the contrary, I am more of a sports enthusiast than he is.  My two favorite sports to watch are basketball and hockey.  I’ve been to both types of games in person and they’re much more exciting when enjoyed in that way.

THE World Famous Harlem Globetrotters are embarking on their 84th season (crazy!).  Now this is no ordinary sports team. The team combines athleticism, theater, and comedy, and you won’t find competition like you would if you were watching an NBA team.  But that doesn’t mean the games aren’t fun or exciting.  In fact, the opposite is true, from what I’ve heard and read.

Their 2010 U.S. “Magical Memories” tour begins on December 26th and continues through May 2nd, and will makes its way to 216 cities—with the Globetrotters taking on their arch-rivals, the Washington Generals, at each stop.   If you’re interested in learning more about the cities hosting the Harlem Globetrotters, simply visit their site.  And once you’re on the site, your kids can send email fan letters (answered personally by Globetrotters players), read more about their history, view photos, and read the latest news.

Tickets vary in price, with the average ticket costing $25.  Right now you can save $7 on tickets purchased with the code HGMOM.  Please note that this code is not valid on VIP or courtside seats, and is available online only until the day before the show.

For my LA and OC readers, here is the schedule:

·         Anaheim         CA 02/13/10          1:00 PM          Honda Center

·         Anaheim         CA 02/13/10          7:00 PM          Honda Center

·         Los Angeles    CA 02/14/10          1:00 PM          Staples Center

·         Los Angeles    CA 02/14/10          6:00 PM          Staples Center

Win It! One of you will win a Harlem Globetrotter mini-basketball, authentic Globetrotter wristbands, an autographed Harlem Globetrotter team photo and a 2010 game program.  Simply visit the site, then come back and tell me something interesting you learned.  Comments will close on January 21, 2010 at 10 PM PST.  One comment per person, please (unless you do the extra credit). US residents only. Duplicates and comments not including the above information will be disqualified. Comments are moderated. If you don’t see your comment in a reasonable amount of time, send me an email. Bloggers and non-bloggers may enter. If you don’t want to leave your email address, please be sure to check back for my announcement on the winner. Please note that winners must respond within 48 hours of being announced/contacted or another winner will be drawn.

I’ve actually met them!!! Back in ’99! They were visiting our Base up in Monterey. They played the base team! It was such an awesome day! My hubby had to help out with the ticket taking section, and I got to go sit with him! A day I will never forget!!! I just learned that not only do they visit state side bases/posts….they go over seas as well! It doesn’t say when they started that up, but I do know that my brother who is stationed in Bahrain had a blast with them when they recently visited there!

I saw the HG when I was about 10. They were amazing and I still remember it even after 35 years! We are lucky as they are coming to our town and I will be able to share the amazing experience with my 7yo and 3yo daughters.

The Globetrotters have played more than 25,000 games, entertaining everyone from Presidents to Popes.

I learned that the Shamrock Capital Growth Fund acquired 80 percent of Harlem Globetrotters International, Inc., from Mannie Jackson, a former Globetrotter player who purchased the team in 1993 and took it to new heights. He now owns only 20 percent. Thanks for the chance.

It is so refreshing to hear that your husband isn’t consumed by sports…because my husband is the exact same way! It’s one of the many, many things that I love about him. :)
