Holiday Gift Guide 2009: simplehuman Published on Saturday, December 12, 2009 by

Simple.  Modern. Earth Tones.  Eco-Friendly.  These are the four adjectives I would use to describe our taste in home decor.  We don’t have a lot of stuff (i.e. knick knacks) because we like to keep things simple. We also have a toddler and a baby on the way, so breakables and things that require dusting don’t fit well with our lifestyle.

In October, I had an opportunity to meet with some of the representatives of simplehuman to get a first-hand look at some of their latest products.  The first thing I noticed was that their products are sleek and modern looking.  And then I got hands-on with them.  They had a trash can in the bathroom that won’t smoosh a toddler’s fingers and a touch free soap dispenser (who knew they carried germs?). I was particularly intrigued by their bamboo line, given my eco-tendencies.

Moms, dads, grandparents, in-laws, friends, siblings…I think you’ll find simplehuman offers a diverse array of products designed to fit a variety of lifestyles.  I had an opportunity to review a few of the company’s products including their sensor soap pump…perfect for moms! We’re right in the thick of cold and flu season and hand-washing has never been so important.  But did you ever think about the germs on soap dispensers?  Because the dispenser has a sensor, you don’t have to touch it, which reduces the likelihood of germs accumulating on it.  The only type of soaps I don’t recommend putting in this dispenser are the foam or beaded soaps because they don’t do well with the dispenser.  Other than that, you could even put lotion inside the dispenser.   FYI….the dispenser requires 4 AA batteries.

Their bamboo line fits well with my home decor preferences.  We received the bamboo adjustable shower caddy and the bamboo toothbrush holder with tumbler.  My husband has zero tolerance for clutter.  He likes the toiletries in the shower and on our counter organized and put away.  The shower caddy took everything from our bathtub corners and neatly organized it into one place.  What’s great about storing them in the caddy as opposed to the side of the shower is that they don’t accumulate mildew (and I can clean the bathtub easily).  My husband attached it and it’s remained securely in place ever since.  I like the storage hooks on the sides for razors and other hanging items. Our shower just looks cleaner having everything stored in one place.

The bamboo toothbrush holder with tumbler holds toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss.  I am not particularly fond of storing my toothbrush in a dark drawer where bugs can grow.  I like having them out in the open to dry.  Everything fits nicely into the holder and looks neat and organized.

Depending on your home decor preferences, you can choose from chrome or bamboo in most products.  I personally prefer the look of bamboo but both are durable, functional, and attractive in appearance.  simplehuman’s entire product line is designed to make you more efficient at your day-to-day activities.  I am highly impressed with the durability, functionality, and appearance of their products. Products can be purchased online or at retailers nationwide.

I like it. We need a shower caddy because ours is all rusted and gross looking. I have to admit though that the sensor pump thing is probably something I’d break in a micro second.
