What do you think?
Gather.com Published on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 by

Moms…how many of you use social media in some form?  I tend to use Facebook for interacting more personally with a close group of friends and reserve Twitter for professional interaction (although I am very much personable with my friends on Twitter as well).

Thanks to Mom Central, I was introduced to Gather.com.  I joined this “vibrant and diverse social networking community” and already “friended” Kailani and joined her Mommy Reviewers Group.  So what is Gather?  Here is a little info from the site:

On Gather, it’s not about who you know or people from your past; it’s about connecting with new people who share your interests and experiences today. What are you into: music, cooking, writing, politics? Just hop into a conversation that interests you, and you’ll meet some great people.

So at first glance, it resembles Facebook.  You can form groups, connect with friends with similar interests and passions, and share media (photos, videos).  There are two specific characteristics about the site that set it apart from others.  First is the opportunity to “gather” with a specific group of people with the focus being on a particular topic.  Second is the opportunity to earn points for site contribution.  The more recipes, stories, and advice you share, the more points you can earn (which can be redeemed for gift cards or PayPal cash).  Now I’m not encouraging you to sign up (which is free by the way) because of the “perks,” however, if your time is limited, and you want to participate in social media AND be rewarded for it, you might consider Gather!  Of course, if you sign up, be sure to friend me…I’m “rockinmama.”

Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a blog and giveaway campaign by Mom Central on behalf of GatherMom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.
