Potting Shed Creations Giveaway Published on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 by

This giveaway is now closed.  Thanks so much for stopping by.  The winner is Kristi.  Congrats!

pottingshedlogo

I have no idea what has triggered the Bailey’s green thumb, but ever since we moved into our home in October, we’ve been planting like crazy!  The previous owner planted roses, a peach tree, and a lime tree, so my husband has been working hard to keep those alive and fruitful (hehe).  We planted sunflowers, basil, and zinnias a few weeks ago and they’re already starting to bud.  It is rewarding to take care of a plant and watch it grow.

Children have this natural affinity for the outdoors.  They’re curious and expressive and have a desire to learn about life!  Now that summer is here, you may be struggling for ideas to keep your children occupied.  One of the things that I highly encourage is helping a child grow a garden. It teaches responsibility and the child gets real feedback on how well they’ve taken care of their garden.  Plus…it’s fun!

gr-gib-kids-sunflowerWe recently received a kit to grow organic Sunflowers, courtesy of Potting Shed Creations.  Here is a little more information about the company from the site:

Potting Shed Creations Kids! is the perfect way for a child to express themselves and design a personalized garden for their own enjoyment or as a gift for someone special. Crayons or paints (and a little creativity) are all that is need to make a work of art that reveals the simple beauty of childhood and gardening.

The kits are easy to use and kid-friendly.  I like the fact that we didn’t need a pot and could plant the seeds right in the bag.  It’s not messy and the seeds can be planted in about 5 to 10 minutes.  The front of the bag has a picture that kids can color/decorate and make it their own.  Just a note that crayons or markers are not included with the kit.  According to the site, the sunflowers grow to be 1-2 feet tall and 10 inches across (wow!).  Here is the best part:  The seeds can be eaten and they’re certified organic (how cool is that?).  I’ll definitely have to show you pictures as they sprout.  They won’t bloom for 60-70 days so I’ll keep you updated towards the end of our series.

If you’re looking for a fun, summer outdoor activity, check out Potting Shed Creations’ entire line of gardening kits for kids which retail for $9.00 to $28.00.

Win It! One of you will win a kid’s Sunflower Garden In a Bag.  Simply head on over to the site and take a look at all their product selection.  Come back and leave me a comment with your favorite (not including the one being given away).  Comments will close on June 3, 2009 at 10 PM PST. One comment per person, please (unless you do the extra credit). US residents only. Duplicates and comments not including the above information will be disqualified. Comments are moderated. If you don’t see your comment in a reasonable amount of time, send me an email. Bloggers and non-bloggers may enter. It is SO hard to pick a favorite from this amazing company. I would love to have any of their wonderful gardening treats. Talk about romancing a product. Kudos to them for product design AND marketing. Wow. I opened the vegetable garden expecting tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers……look at this, “The perfect start to growing and cultivating a classic, French-style potager garden to bring fresh vegetables to your landscape and to your table. Seed included are rouge d’hiver lettuce, french breakfast radish, chantenay carrot, marmande tomato, bunching onion, mammoth melting snow pea, edible flower nasturtium, and haricot vert maxibel bean.”

I feel like I had a trip to Paris.

The butterfly garden would be something that both my kids would love. We have lots of butterflys in our yard and would love to have more.

I think that we will be getting one.
