Yogurt…It Does a Body Good (Giveaway!) Published on Monday, March 16, 2009 by

This giveaway is now closed.  Thanks for stopping by. The winners are Jennifer, Carol, and Dina.  Congratulations!

Do you have a comfort food?  A food you turn to when you want something familiar and satisfying….that’s what yogurt is for me.  I love the smooth taste and the way I feel after I eat yogurt…healthy and rejuvenated.  You probably know that yogurt is really good for you.  It’s packed full of probiotics, protein, vitamins and minerals.  I’m lactose intolerant but, surprisingly, I can eat yogurt.  It’s partly due to the way yogurt is made and the fact that it contains live, active cultures that benefit the gastrointestinal system. We have gotten into the habit of regularly consuming yogurt and my son rarely goes a day without it.

yoplus_digestiveWhen you’re at the grocery store, selecting from the numerous yogurt options, I suggest you consider the amount of calories, fat, cholesterol, and sugar present so that you attain the most benefits from this super-food.  I recently tried Yoplait’s new digestive yogurt called Yo-Plus.  Here is a little more information from the site:

Yo-Plus has a special combination of probiotic cultures and fiber, plus vitamins A and D.  Yo-Plus cultures are clinically proven to help naturally regulate digestive health.

Yo-Plus is available in seven different flavors and they’ve just recently introduced Blueberry Acai.  Despite the fact that it’s a low-fat yogurt, it still retains that rich, creamy texture and delicious fruit flavor. I don’t find it to be overwhelmingly sweet like some yogurts.  Yo-Plus has 110 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, and 3 grams of fiber per serving and I definitely feel satiated after eating a container.  I actually find that it’s the perfect snack to get me from breakfast to lunch but you could definitely eat it in the morning for breakfast with scrambled eggs or a bowl of Cheerios.  Of course it provides you with much needed calcium, Vitamin A and D (particularly important for women as they age).  The real benefit of Yo-Plus, and what sets it apart from most, is that it contains three different types of live and active cultures including S. thermophilus and L. bulgaricus (typically found in yogurt) and the added benefit of the probiotic culture Bifidobacterium lactis Bb-12TM. The combination helps to keep your digestive system in balance.

To learn more about how probiotics help your digestive system and your body as a whole, check out the Yo-Plus website. You can also download a coupon which will save you $1.50 on a four-pack of Yo-Plus.

yoplus_gift

Win It! Three of you will win a Yo-Plus gift bag which includes everything you see above.  Simply head on over to the site and take a look around.  Come back here with the name of a flavor you’d like to try (other than Blueberry Acai) and a fact about probiotics that I didn’t mention.  Comments will close on March 30, 2009 at 10 PM PST.  One comment per person, please. I’d like the cherry flavor. Probiotics build up the good bacteria in the gut so there is not as much room for the bad bacteria to multiply and cause digestive problems.

Probiotics mean literally “for life” – I think the Peach flavor would be awesome to try!

I like Peach. I learned that Yo-Plus has a probiotic culture called. Bifidobacterium, which is a special type of live and active culture clinically shown to support digestive health. Probiotics, meaning literally “for life”, are a good kind of natural bacteria. They give your system the friendly active cultures it likes to keep you in balance.

I’d like to try peach. Probiotic cultures help reduce the digestive issues caused by stress.

The cherry sounds like a yummy flavor and it is typically my favorite yogurt flavor. I haven’t tried Yo-Plus yet, but Yoplait is a wonderful brand and their yogurts are creamy, rich and delicious!

I learned that probiotics help crowd out the unfriendly bacteria in our system.

    Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.
