nubar…The Healthy Alternative for Nail Care Published on Thursday, March 5, 2009 by

It’s time for yet another fun, pampering review just for you moms!  BC (before children), I got a manicure every two weeks, minimum.  I LOVE having perfectly groomed fingers and toes.  But mostly I love the splash of color that makes my fingernails stand out.  What I don’t love is the harsh smell that accompanies nail polish!  I don’t know about you, but the gal at my nail salon wears a mask.  That should tell you something right there about the safety of all of those chemicals and fumes!

nubarpinkeleganceThere is fabulous company called nubar which sells a safer alternative to nail polish.  Their entire collection of nail lacquers are free of cancer-causing formaldehyde, phthalates, and toluene.  The founder’s personal family history with cancer inspired him to develop a line of products that are “the healthy alternative for nail care.”  With 14 nail treatments and over 180 colors you are sure to find a product that will make you and your nails look naturally gorgeous.  Children and pregnant women, who typically should not be exposed to chemicals found in conventional polish, can now enjoy beautifully painted nails.

I was sent La Perla Frost and Camelot Blossom to try thanks to Mom Fuse.  I LOVE La Perla Frost because I tend to choose polish colors that have a little bit of shimmer or texture to them.  One coat of color is all you need, but I like to put a base and top coat on to extend the wear time.  It dries quickly and doesn’t chip easily.  I will say that while there is a scent to the polish, it isn’t overwhelming and I feel comfortable knowing that I’m not exposing my son or myself to harmful chemicals. Ideally, painting your nails is something you can do at home (I just don’t have the magic touch to get them looking salon perfect).  I have decided to bring a bottle of nubar with me to the nail salon and have my gal paint my nails with it instead of the salon nail polish.

A bottle of nail lacquer retails for $6.99 which isn’t bad considering the fact that it’s a healthy alternative to nail polish.

Profuse thanks to nubar and Mom Fuse for this review opportunity!
