Sustainable (Potty) Training Pants by Seventh Generation Published on Thursday, February 12, 2009 by

This giveaway is now closed.  Thanks for joining the potty party.  The winner is Elissa.  Congratulations!

When my son was a baby, he had chronic diaper rashes. We have been through every diaper company…even some lesser known eco-friendly diaper companies. We happened upon Seventh Generation and decided to try their Chlorine-Free Diapers as a last resort before moving to cloth diapers (which my husband and I did not want to do because of our schedules). I had tried eco-friendly diapers so I wasn’t really sure if that would help my son’s diaper rashes. To this day, unless he eats something he isn’t supposed to (like tomatoes!), he doesn’t get a diaper rash. It also helps that we switched to the Chlorine-Free Wipes during the process of trying to identify the cause of the rashes.

Now that we’re in the midst of potty-training, we’ve naturally started to incorporate Seventh Generation’s Chlorine-Free Training Pants. Both the diapers and the training pants have worked really well for us. They’re super soft (designed to offer cloth-like comfort), hypo-allergenic, fragrance and latex-free. I’ve never once had a diaper failure. Seventh Generation designed the training pants with inner leak barriers and stretchy, tear-away side panels to keep your child dry and comfortable. Can I just say how much I love training pants? When my son figured out how to take his diaper off, I realized that it was time to find another solution! The training pants are easy enough for a tot to get on and off when it’s time to use the potty, but they stay put when my son is playing!

Seventh Generation’s Chlorine Free Training Pants come in 3 sizes and they retail for about $15-20. However, I always purchase my son’s diapers on Amazon.com using the Subscribe and Save function and which means each pack is $9.35 plus free shipping! This is the cheapest I’ve found anywhere! You can also download a coupon for $2.00 off any Baby product directly from the site.

By the way, if you’re looking for an excellent wipe, try the Chlorine-Free Baby Wipes. They’re unscented, hypo-allergenic, alcohol-free, and contain Aloe Vera and Vitamin E lotion. They actually feel like a moist, soft cloth and they’re very gentle. When you choose the Subscribe and Save option on Amazon.com, each pack of 80 costs only $2.98. And the best part is that they’re shipped to your door for free when you want them.

I am an avid fan of Seventh Generation’s entire product line. The company is “committed to becoming the world’s most trusted brand of authentic, safe, and environmentally-responsible products for a healthy home.” They disclose all of their product’s ingredients which make them a brand I can trust and feel comfortable using. Using their products ensures that you are “saving natural resources, reducing pollution, keeping toxic chemicals out of the environment and making the world a safer place for this and the next seven generations.”

Win It! Seventh Generation has generously donated a baby starter kit which includes 2 packs of diapers in the size of your choice, a tub and travel pack of baby wipes, and baby laundry detergent in a reusable bag. Simply head on over to the site and take a look around. Come back here and leave me a comment stating something you like or learned over at Seventh Generation. Comments will close on February 26, 2009 at 10 pm PST. One comment per person, please. US residents only. Duplicates and comments not including the above information will be disqualified. I like all the baby products and the free and clear natural laundry soap. Great for my sensitive skin and great for the environment! =)

  • by Alicia Webster February 13, 2009 at 10:48 am

I learned that Seventh Generation wants the public to use cold water to wash their clothes, and says that you can save up to $70/year doing so. That is great info, as I have washed in nothing but cold water for four months now, and my family is pleased with the results. Also, I didn’t know that Seventh Generation offered coupons on some of their products.

Their bath tissue now softer and still contains 100% recycled paper with minimum 80% post-consumer. Which means softer on the bum.

Very interesting website. I never heard of anti-microbial countertops. They sound pretty practical but not if they’re really dangerous as the article states. Why would the government allow a possible carcinogen in such an accesible place?

I’ve been concerned for a while about the chemicals and fumes that I’m spreading around my house when I clean. I’ve started to use a non-toxic, biodegradable all-purpose cleaner, but I’m still looking for something to use on bigger jobs, like the bathrooms. I’d love to try the Green Mandarin and Leaf Shower Cleaner.

  • by ashley February 18, 2009 at 8:07 am

the natural glass and surface cleaner would surely ease my anxiety over the extreme chemical smell that covers our home whenever i use windex on the mirrors and windows–i would love to feel confident while cleaning that no harmful ingredient was being inhaled by me or my children! i have long wanted to try the chlorine-free diapers so thank you for the giveaway!

I love their website’s “learn” section – there are great articles there about greening your home for a new baby, and other topics related to living a greener life. Their suggestions are simple and do-able. The products they offer are a fantastic start, of course!

We have two in diapers – so I’m really happy to reduce the impact of the disposables we use. Thanks for the giveaway!

Oooh, I’d LOVE to win this set!! I am getting ready for my first little one, due in May, and I have lots of Seventh Generation diapers and wipes on my registry :) When I visited their site I learned that they also make toilet paper (which is now softer!) and they have some coupons on their site! Sweet! :) Thanks so much for the giveaway – I’m crossing my fingers and hoping you pick me!

I’m going to have to look into doing the Amazon thing for some of their products to help with the cost (and the nice side effect of not having to leave the house to stock up on necessities!)

I didn’t know they made tampons and pads!!?? Our family loves choosing products that are good for our environment! Like you, with my first daughter, she had bad diaper rash. Their products didn’t bother her sensitive skin! I would like to use them on my son who is due in 8 wks as well!
