Ok well I love the show- it keeps the kids interested- is fun and educational, and the guy is not at all bad for the eyes. He reminds me of the croco hunter may Steve rest in peace in that he is in tune with them and truly cares, not just there for the job.

Something I learned: If you were to put a sample of chimpanzee DNA next to a sample of human DNA—and if you had any idea what you were looking at—you would see that the samples are nearly identical.

Thanks for the review and giveaway!

This sounds like a great show and a wonderful cause.

“In South Africa, there’s a sanctuary for chimpanzees rescued from the horrors of human captivity — physical abuse, malnutrition, abandonment and drug and alcohol abuse.”

  • by Nora SP January 25, 2009 at 4:01 pm

I learned that – to helping keep each other clean, grooming reduces tension among group members. Chimpanzees are sociable animals who seem to need physical contact, and grooming helps satisfy this need. It also strengthens ties between group members. Sometimes as many as 10 chimpanzees will take part in these peaceful, relaxed grooming sessions. Often a grooming group will be made up of a mother and several of her offspring of different ages. Adult males may also groom one another

DH and I love documentaries. We went to an animal sanctuary last year that works with a place in Africa as well to retrain animals for the wild. I think all the great activities he does with the animals to prepare them for their return to the wild sound exciting. We’d love to see this!

I had only heard a bit about this program, but the website was very informative – and it made me want to see the entire season! I learned that the host of the show is a South African guy named Eugene Cussins, and after watching a video of one of the rescued chimps, Cozi, climbing a tree for the first time, I was hooked. Fascinating and heartwarming program that my whole family would love — thanks for the chance to win!

  • by Diane February 6, 2009 at 2:35 pm

I didn’t get to see all the episodes on Animal Planet so this DVD would be a good way to catch those I missed. I love how Eugene’s love and affection for these chimps is giving the a chance at a better life then living in a little itty bitty cage. One of the first episodes I saw one of the chimps (i dont know which one) was stuck in a cage so small there was no room to do more then sit. How people can be so cruel to other animals always amazes me.

Something I learned from the site is if you put a sample of chimpanzee DNA next to a sample of human DNA — and if you had any idea what you were looking at — you would see that the samples are nearly identical. Chimps and humans share 96 percent of their DNA.

    You can adopt a chimp!

haha, when i was little i thought when you “adopted” a wild animal, you
could take it home. i was so dissapointed when they just gave me a picture of the animal and a stuffed animal….

  • by kathy pease February 7, 2009 at 1:18 pm

i learned More than 98 percent of our DNA matches up to that of apes, which makes them genetically closer to us than gorillas

  • by Marc February 7, 2009 at 1:42 pm

What I learned is there is this concept called Mystery Chimps, (and there is an episode with that subheading). Anyway, this means that these “mystery chimps” could not be integrated with the “other” chimps. But even when the chimps are not mystery chimps the individual personalites may not be able to get along with each other or the group because they may not fit in personality wise. Okay, that last sentence may have been a little unwieldy…but I still learned enough to be impressed with the series.

  • by Susanne Troop February 7, 2009 at 3:42 pm

We love anything from the Animal Planet that teaches us about real animals in the wild. Human DNA is almost identical to the DNA of apes!

  • by Jason Lawless February 7, 2009 at 5:12 pm

What’s not to like – those monkeys are very interesting creatures.

  • by Marcy Strahan February 7, 2009 at 7:12 pm

I learned: If you were to put a sample of chimpanzee DNA next to a sample of human DNA—and if you had any idea what you were looking at—you would see that the samples are nearly identical.
