Innovative Solutions: The Veggie-Peel (Plus a Giveaway!) Published on Friday, October 10, 2008 by

*Update*

This giveaway is now closed.  Thank you so much for stopping by.  The winner is Noreen (it’s not often that random.org picks the first comment!).  Congratulations!

It’s another day in the Bailey household and the redundant question of the day is “What’s for dinner?”  My husband is the savvy one and I often skirt cooking duty in exchange for clean-up!  My husband is probably the messiest cook I’ve ever known but I can’t complain because his meals are soooo yummy. I think I’d probably be inclined to spend more time in the kitchen if I had products that made cooking and clean-up easier like The Veggie-Peel.

I have to thank Nicole over at Apron Strings Aflutter for introducing me to this fabulously ingenious product.  Gone are the days of clogged kitchen sink drains and flying cucumber peels.  The Veggie-Peel is a simple, savvy, safe solution for meal prep.  It features a double-sided blade, which makes it user-friendly for anyone, regardless of which hand they prefer to use.  The fruit and vegetable peelings empty into an acrylic chamber which has a removable cap.  Clean-up is literally the time it takes to open the chamber and empty the peelings into the trash.  The Veggie-Peel is simple to clean and dishwasher safe.

Check out my short video review!

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQ4sRzoh_PM&hl=en&fs=1]

Annette Sanchez, founder and CEO of the Veggie-Peel, has received national recognition for her invention.  The Veggie-Peel was selected as one of the final eight products selected from over 6,000 product inventions presented on Oprah.  Most recently, her and her product were featured on The Today Show.

The Veggie-Peel is available for purchase on her website for $19.99.  Check out her site for a video demo and a truly inspiring recipe for carrot cake (among others)!

Win It!  How would you like to get your hands on a Veggie-Peel?  Annette has graciously offered to give one of you a Veggie-Peel.  Head on over to her site and take a look around.  Come back and tell me why you need a Veggie-Peel.  Comments will close on October 17, 2008 at 10 pm PST and I will announce the winner here the following day. One comment per person, please. US residents only. Duplicates and comments not including the above information will be disqualified. Comments are moderated. If you don’t see your comment in a reasonable amount of time, send me an email. Bloggers and non-bloggers may enter. If you don’t want to leave your email address, please be sure to check back for my announcement on the winner. Please note that winners must respond within 48 hours of being announced/contacted or another winner will be drawn.

I neede a VP because I clogged out sink once, I don’t want to repeat that ever!!

  • by Jess October 10, 2008 at 3:14 am

I need a veggie-peel because I’m moving in with two of my co-workers and we come home exhausted from ten hours in the field doing habitat restoration. Anything to speed up cleaning would be incredibly helpful.

  • by Jessica C October 10, 2008 at 3:16 am

Double-sided blades for people who are either left-handed or right-handed.
this is great. I am right handed and hubby is left. He could peel too.

  • by andreamcmann October 10, 2008 at 3:48 pm

I make a gigantic mess whenever I try to peel anything! I’d love to have this, so I don’t spend more time picking up the peels than I do actually peeling! :)

  • by stephanie October 10, 2008 at 7:25 pm

because my husband is a messy, messy, messy cook and I usually don’t like it when he takes over the kitchen because I’m the one who has to clean up after him. (and we are talking sauce splatters, peelings all over the place, etc)

This tool would be very handy for him and very good for my sanity!

  • by AmandaK October 10, 2008 at 7:26 pm

We just went from 4 people living in the house to 5- in one day!! Feeding 5 people, including myself, can get hard when you don’t have a veggie peeler!

  • by Victoria October 10, 2008 at 7:29 pm

I have to eat a lot of veggies and as I have to take a blood thinner, this would save me a lot of injuries. :)

  • by karissa October 10, 2008 at 7:29 pm

I don’t own a peeler so I could really use one! and I tend to cut myself when I use a knife to “peel” anything. I am a class A klutz!

  • by Kam A October 10, 2008 at 7:32 pm

I always make such a mess when I peel veggies! I love that “Your work station stays clean and free of vegetable peelings!”

  • by Shilo Beedy October 10, 2008 at 8:22 pm

This would be so great and easy to use plus less messes for me to clean up. I also tend to cut myself using knifes and peelers.

  • by Elizabeth M. October 10, 2008 at 8:24 pm

I like the fact that it can be used for righties or lefties. Hubby is a leftie and loves to cook so we’d really use it a lot. Also, since it’s dishwasher safe, it makes it a must-have!

I cannot find my peeler – I’m guessing DH threw it away with the peel.

  • by Sandra Brodeur October 11, 2008 at 12:08 pm

There are a few reasons why I would like the veggie peel. One is the time it saves. Another is less of a clean up mess. Aslo it would be easy of my fingers that are arthritic.

  • by Sierra Martin October 11, 2008 at 12:25 pm

I need one because no matter how clean i think my kitchen is, i still find dried up pieces of peeled veggies, days later, stuck behind cutting boards, in my silver ware drawer, or falling between my oven and counter.

fabulous invention. i hope every store carries them!

  • by janeh October 11, 2008 at 3:48 pm

  • by tawnda October 11, 2008 at 3:58 pm

I would like to try this because of my limited mobolity and eyesight

  • by Kate October 11, 2008 at 4:15 pm

That is better than me peeling my fruit and veggies over the trash and occasionally losing one to the bin when it slips from my grasp. Cucumbers in particular seem to be slippery little buggers.

  • by veronica sandberg October 11, 2008 at 4:47 pm

just moved didn’t move much. Sure could use it.

  • by beth shepherd October 11, 2008 at 4:47 pm

  • by Betty N October 12, 2008 at 3:11 pm

That looks like a great vegetable peeler. I may be the world’s worst vegetable peeler….I hate the little ones that take forever to get anything peeled; if I use a knife I cut off too much of the vegetable with the peel. I am
    “vegetable peeling” challenged!

  • by Shannon Raab October 12, 2008 at 4:07 pm

I need a Veggie-Peel because I love the concept of the Acrylic Chamber that allows you to peel with no mess, no clogged kitchen drains and just an easy toss into the garbage can! For someone like me who cooks with lots and lots of vegetables this would really make life easier!

  • by Courtney S October 13, 2008 at 6:38 am

This is awesome! I need this because it would help keep the kitchen cleaner.. I always make such a mess with the peels!

  • by Patti October 13, 2008 at 1:35 pm

We did away with those easy mini carrots after hearing about the chlorine they use on them, so we have switch back to regular old big carrots and they way my kids eat them, I’m going to be peeling a lot!!

  • by Kimberly V. October 13, 2008 at 2:31 pm

    What a fabulous idea!!!!

I would love to win one because I make sure to pack veggies for lunch each day for my kids and I’m always getting peels all over the place. Just ask the dog who usually ends up eating them before I ge a chance to grab them off the floor. I know it’s ok to eat the carrots, but, I’m not sure if my pooch guzzling down cucumber peels is such a good idea. Ha Ha.

Thank you for a wonderful giveaway.

  • by Kari A. October 13, 2008 at 2:50 pm

I need this for a few reasons. One is that I hate cleaning up the mess of making veggies & thus don’t eat as much as I should because of the hassle. Another is that I am a neat freak and I think this had to be made just for me. Plus, I am a busy mom of (soon) a newborn, a 15 month old and a 16 YEAR old… I need anything that makes life easier.

    nateandjakesmom at gmail dot com

    terraljones@gmail.com

  • by Spoodles October 13, 2008 at 4:01 pm

I need a veggie peel because I am a messy, messy cook. I can’t seem to hit a bowl with the peelings, so I resort to the sink, which I then have to clean, so I head for the trash can, which has diapers in it, and I don’t really want to have to take the lid off and stand over the smell. Save me from these run-on sentences—er, I mean peeling problems!

  • by anne s. October 13, 2008 at 4:26 pm

i love that the vegetable peels don’t end up on the floor…
    annsavd at gmail dot com

  • by Jen October 13, 2008 at 4:48 pm

I need the veggie peal because im expecting my first baby soon and I want to make my own baby food, this would save me lots of time while I have a screaming little one at my kitchen table!

  • by Kristie October 13, 2008 at 5:14 pm

I’d love a veggie peel, so I wouldn’t have to worry about cleaning up from making dinner when my little ones are screaming.
    Great idea!

  • by Alice Hansen October 13, 2008 at 5:34 pm

I need one because of the mess free design – I get peel everywhere with my regular peeler. So messy and hard to clean up. Thanks for the chance!

  • by Sarah Berry October 13, 2008 at 5:48 pm

I need a veggie peeler because I am horrible at peeling vegetables in the first place and of course very messy. Then add in the factor that I’m a single mom who’s little one wants all the attention. No mess would be AWESOME! Thanks for the giveaway.

  • by saraG October 13, 2008 at 6:07 pm

I need a V-P because I never have any luck peeling veggies – it always makes a big mess all over the kitchen! I think this would really help :)

  • by M.A. October 13, 2008 at 6:18 pm

I’m a gardener who always needs extra veggie peelers when the produce starts pouring in.

  • by Lo October 13, 2008 at 6:20 pm

We’ve been making baby food for our little one and this would make it go so much faster!! Thanks.

  • by tiffanytaylor October 13, 2008 at 6:33 pm

Excellent! My husband has had to help unclog our garbage disposal several times — if even a few cucumber or potato peels get into it, we’re in trouble. The Veggie Peel would be a huge help. Thanks!

  • by jessica s October 13, 2008 at 6:42 pm

oh, this would be great to elliminate some of the mess of dinner prep!

  • by Marci October 13, 2008 at 8:41 pm

I am always throwing my peels down the garbage disposal. Sadly if I put to many in there it clogs up and I make a huge mess.

What a wonderful and innovative idea!

  • by Erin October 13, 2008 at 8:52 pm

Oh! This would be awesome! We don’t have a garbage disposal, and I hate reaching in and pulling all of the peelings out of the drain in the kitchen sink–uugh! What a great invention!

  • by LisaW October 13, 2008 at 8:52 pm

I could really use one of these! Anything to make veggie prep and cleanup easier is welcome in my house!

  • by Kari Dennis October 13, 2008 at 9:45 pm

I need this because my husband does all the cooking and it would help make veggies easier.

  • by Morgan M. October 13, 2008 at 10:20 pm

I need one of these because I cannot tell you how many times I have flicked tiny pieces of carrot peel into the air and never found them again. I swear they disappear into thin air. Sometimes they reappear in my hair later or across the kitchen on a cabinet door.

This would be so cool to have.

  • by Stacy October 14, 2008 at 1:43 am

Mine is rusting and needs to be replaced.

  • by Rebecca C October 14, 2008 at 5:08 am

Peeling things would be my children’s favorite kitchen job, but they end up getting peels EVERYWHERE. Which they claim not to see all the time, so they don’t get to do it as awesome as they like. With these they can peel and I won’t have to pick up after them, so it will actually be a help for once :P

  • by Kathrine W October 14, 2008 at 2:44 pm

we cook fresh veggies everyday and I peel quite a few of them. This would save me lots of cleanup and dirty counters or cleaning out the sink. This is a cool invention! Thank you!

  • by Donna C. October 14, 2008 at 5:03 pm

I need this because I have a very old vegetable peeler which is hard to use and of course makes a mess.

  • by Nathaniel R Beck October 14, 2008 at 5:08 pm

We eat a lot of salads are are constantly peeling veggies. This is a grea idea.

  • by jenni!!! October 14, 2008 at 5:51 pm

We need one because every time we put peels down our garbage disposal, our sink gets clogged! Then when we unclog it, there’s usually a “sink burp” and chunks of veggie and dirty water go flying all over our kitchen and us!

  • by Kasey P October 14, 2008 at 6:04 pm

Believe it or not we don’t have a garbage disposal. I keep telling my husband that I need one, but since we have a septic tank he says it’s not good to put all that stuff down the drain. So, something like this would be wonderful and then I wouldn’t have to go picking everything up out of the sink trying not to get anything down the drain.

  • by Kari Follett October 14, 2008 at 7:30 pm

I have yet to find a veggie peeler that actually works good – I’d love this!

I need a veggie peel because I HATE peeling over the trash can and then dropping my veggie in there, it’d be awesome to be able to just peel over the counter and not have a mess to clean up after

  • by Marcy October 14, 2008 at 11:16 pm

I can never manage to peel without cutting myself, this looks like it would help! Our garbage disposal also just went out so having a quick clean-up without clogging the drain would be awesome!

  • by Deanne October 15, 2008 at 12:02 am

These are such a great idea. This is a safe and much needed product for every home. Every family member can be safe using this peeler. Somehow my peeler has up and dissapeared. I don’t know if the junk food ghost stoled it so we can’t eat healthy or the borrowers under the house took it, either way I no longer have a peeler and with the holidays coming up this is one much needed tool in my house. Thank you for all your time, effort and energy to put these contests together for all of us a chance to win some awesome prizes.
