Green Me: Kleen Kanteen Review & Giveaway Published on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 by

*Update*

This giveaway is now closed.  Thank you so much for stopping by.  The winner is Jessica.  Congratulations!

Now that the word is out on BPA, parents are seeking out plastic alternatives.  Bisphenol A (BPA) can cause negative health effects, even at low doses, by mimicking the body’s own hormones.  I was fortunate enough to have read about BPA before purchasing bottles for my son.  I have noticed a significant increase in the number of companies who have committed to manufacturing BPA-free alternatives, particularly in the last two years.

Thanks to Kay Green at My Precious Kid, my son and I were able to try out Kleen Kanteen’s 12 ounce sippy. Unlike other sippy’s we’ve used, this one is made of 100% recyclable, high-quality, food- grade stainless steel.  I was concerned that it might be too heavy (it only weighs 4 ounces when it’s empty) for my son but he was able to carry it around without a problem!  The sippy has a tapered, slim design which makes it easy for little hands to grasp.  Kleen Kanteen’s special adapter works with Avent’s patented sippy cup spout (also BPA-free).  I initially thought it was going to be too hard for my son to drink from but he hasn’t had any difficulties!  There are two things I absolutely love about Kleen Kanteen’s sippys:  liquids stay cold for hours and the spout does not leak.

I’m never surprised to find one of my son’s sippy cups hiding under the television or in his toy box or some other place I probably won’t find until we move out.   A couple of nights ago I left my son’s sippy cup on the counter with water in it.  If you can believe it, it was still cold (and we only keep our thermostat at 78 degrees).  I’ve never experienced this with any cup or bottle I’ve used.

Another thing I’ve given up on is the continuous use of stain remover on our carpets.  Several times a day my son spills food or liquids on the carpet.  While Avent does not guarantee that their sippy spouts are leak-free, I haven’t had one leak from the sippy or the spout since we’ve been using it.

Kleen Kanteen’s sippys and the Avent spouts are dishwasher safe and can be purchased from My Precious Kid for $17.95-$19.95 (depending on your color preference).

Win It!  My Precious Kid has offered to give away one Kleen Kanteen twelve ounce sippy with 2 Avent spouts!  Head on over to My Precious Kid and take a look around.  Come back here and leave me a comment indicating another product you love from her site.  Comments will close on November 1, 2008 at 10 pm PST and I will announce the winner here the following day. One comment per person, please. US residents only. Duplicates and comments not including the above information will be disqualified. Comments are moderated. If you don’t see your comment in a reasonable amount of time, send me an email. Bloggers and non-bloggers may enter. If you don’t want to leave your email address, please be sure to check back for my announcement on the winner. Please note that winners must respond within 48 hours of being announced/contacted or another winner will be drawn.

With them being only 19 months apart, they do everything together and if I’m not around people don’t know which sippy cup is who’s. Plus, I bought two different colors so my girls know who’s is who’s even though they can’t read. Wonderful!!

The Toddler backpack: child safety harness backpack sounds great. My nephew has energy to spare and he is getting too independent to carry or keep in the stroller all the time when we are out. He hit the terrible twos early and shows no sign of leaving them any time soon. I love him but sometimes I get tiered just watching him.
